    Workshop bench

For quite sometime I have wanted to add a heavy duty sturdy large workbench to my shop. I have looked casually for quite some time and nothing out there for sale is nice and good quality and the heavy duty welding benches are 30k baht and more and I really didn't want a welding specific work bench. I had drafted up a few designs and was just about to go pick up some metal to begin to make a round tube stand to mount a top too when the one below came along. Funny as it was, the old neighbor lady asked my wife If I would be so kind to take it in my truck to the local scrap metal place, she didn't use it anymore. I looked it over and said I will give you 500bht (which is way more then the scrap place would have). She was really happy. What I liked is its an older heavy duty round steel framed bench with a nice 3/4inch plate underneath a SST top. The steel I was going to buy was easily double that and it saves me time cutting and welding.

    Not bad for 500 bht.

I sanded it up a bit then power washed yesterday and this morning picked up 3 cans of paint at the local Mom and Pop shop and started at painting it

    All painted up and drying

Now for the top, I found a factory in BKK that sells 2cm thick hard wood tops. My wife took over the negotiations and she ordered me up a 240cm Long by 100cm wide table top. They only sell them that size so I will have to cut the length down myself as I only have space for 200cm long. 1350bht +250bht shipping Its on its way.

I am thinking I will weld on some heavy duty casters to the legs so I can move it around easily.

I look forward to having the larger bench space in the shop and the fun project while I watch NFL pre season and have a few beers. Will update once the top arrives.

That does not look to be 19mm (3/4") thick steel plate under the stainless top.

Good buy for Bt.500 a though.

Yes Sir. Watched quite a few various teams and the rookies. Some solid additions to a few teams. Will watch a few more games later. Love the NFL game pass. Can watch anytime. I do not look at the scores so it's perfect, no getting up at 3am to stream live. Lots of big games on the opening kick off weekend.

Had to give up coffee 35 years ago as I was drinking too much, was getting heart palpitations and sweats. Great find that bench.

We know who to blame when a thread starts up on Facebook about a rich farang ripping of an old Thai lady, shame on you!

As for putting a wooden top on it, if it were mine I would leave it as it is.
But then again the Missus would take it to use in her kitchen.

Hahaha. Hey. She told my wife that the scrap place would give her maybe 200bht. I have to say, my wife was the one who said my husband will give you 500. She was happy. Also to note, I trim her trees to help her being I have all the tools. Her husband passed 2 years back.

Exactly why this will be a shop bench. My wife made some comment how it would be a nice table for her by the kitchen area. I said NOPE.

I got up at 3am, luckily my Bengals didn't play until 5am. Which gave the gf plenty of time to get a fire going and grill me up a plate of wings. Life is good even for a peasant out here in the village with out NFL game pass. Thats quite the project stump. Are you doing it all yourself?

I used to do that until NFL Pass launched. Hard to get up to chow Nachos and have beer at 3am. For $199 bucks to have full access to every game and more over watch when I want is so much more enjoyable. I even keep the MNF game and always BBQ. I wish the NBA did a NBA pass but good thing is most the games are always 8 or 9am so oK to watch streaming. Bengals look good this year. I think the AFC will be very tough.

Yep. It's mostly getting the various parts and fab'ing them together. I hope to get the top from the factory next week. Apparently they mass produce tops and export them which is why they offer one size.

Do they. Last year I checked and when I inquired it wasn't available international. Now. I could do a VPN through work but hadn't investigated AO as the game starts aren't too bad. NFL only plays on weekends and those 10am and 1pm start times mean either getting up at 1am and 3am. Not gonna happen.

Yeah man. Brutal AO. I mean I love watching football it's hard to explain to a Thai wife I am setting the Alarm at 1am to watch a game. They look at you a bit cross-eyed. After that....heading to the fridge for a beer seems really odd..

Now if I had been up all night with buddies grabbing a beer or a good Bourbon is no problem.

What a couple of old farts.

I often times do last bar call at 1:30am only to walk/stumble down the hill home to come on to TD for a nice shit fight.

I would imagine stumpy gets up early like me. Lots of people here get up very early to enjoy the day in our hot tropical climate. Everyday I get up 530-545am with no alarm. Then am out jogging by 630am. So much nicer than the heat of the day. You would be amazed how many people are up at that time here.

According to you in some other threads, all Americans are 500 pounds, ride around on mobility scooters and shop at Walmart.

    Clueless.
