Thread: Bantak bungalow expansion

A bit of a diversion from our project we stopped in at the Bantak Teak saw mill to look at a few boards. I love to have a look around in this place.

A few Burmese workers moving bandsaw blades.



And another look at some of the inventory.



They make all kinds of wood products as well as plain lumber and it's shipped all over the world.

This week things are really taking shape on the job. The tractor guy was back to move the Teak post.



I tried to move one and they are way to heavy to even budge.



I'm hoping these wood poles give our place a cool look I love to use wood when possible and it's a nice break from cement.

8" post are definitely big enough that's for sure. I'm glad we went with these and not the 6' as thy can look a bit small in contrast to everything else.



All are standing now with no incidents. All toes and fingers accounted for.

Looking very nice Mike. Those Teak posts will really bring a nice contrast around the area.

Always loved floor to ceiling windows where there's a lush garden outside.

Thanks. We thought a bit of wood detail could be a nice contrast to all the cement.

Here are a few pictures we used as examples to show our contractor. Of course it won't be exact but just a general idea of what we're going for.

And a shit ton of a/c for the box you're stuck in?

Nah - get a veranda in the shade outside and a fan.

The windows/glass doors slide across like an accordion.

Are those manacles on the 'treatment' beds?

Looks like a place to stay for a week, and order room service.

We are in Bantak after all not a high end island and we're on a budget. But we will get something close I hope.

It's all go this week. Walls going up and the roof structure has started as well.



Not much chance of it blowing over.



This area will be open in the front and this short wall will be capped here with teak board hopefully letting a bit of a cool breeze in.

The roof is moving right along.

They really don't like us leaving that tree next to our building. I went up and trimmed it back to appease them a bit but I know they would preferer to see it down.
I will take my chances it's been there for years no problem and I want some shade.



It's starting to look like something now.

Great Pics Mike, Project progressing well. When done you will have a nice lounge pool kitchen type area based on the plan pics. I am thinking a BBQ Pool Party when done.

Lots has been done since I last posted here.

Roof all framed up and ready to go.

Somehow the rain held off just long enough to get the roof on lucky break for all.



Definitely not the most high end roof material but we have to save somewhere it will look fine when everything is done.

And a nice break from the blistering heat for the crew.

This will be an open area.



And the kitchen. It will be a massive upgrade from our current situation that is similar to camping.

Very nice, what have been your lessons learned so far?

Progressing along very well Mike. Great aerial pic. Having that open covered area will be really nice during summer. Do you get a breeze through the property? A few large remote controlled ceiling fans might be something to consider.

Thanks, I think it's still to early to realize any big regrets.

I find those become obvious during the finishing stages of the job when everything has to work together and it is way past the point of an easy fix but I'm hoping to have avoided any big screw ups.
