    New home project for 2022

Not being one to leave well enough along, I bit a little more than I cam chew . and started a storage/work shop area behind the house.
Between the house an the back fence wall there is a space about 3m wide
First I welded a work bench to have a work surface
    New home project for 2022-work-bench-jpg

Then I attached a 4.5m long P channel steel to the house. Was not hard because the wall is AAC block and it is easy to screw into , and tom that steel I welded beams to the fence, then I framed it all around and laid cross members for the metal roof to be screwed on.

So the area under roof will be 3meters X 4,5 meters.
I just finished putting the roof on and my whole body is aching , there are things aching that I didn't even know I had. LOL.
I'll take some better pictures tomorrow.

The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

    Nice effort. A question.

I assume its just for light work when the weather ain't pissing it down. I'd have considered going full indoorsey, man cave, aircon, beer fridge with a TV and goldfish bowl, i know you like your fish. Oh and full width.

I will eventfully cover it to the corner and over the water tank , then I will build a wall with a door on the opposite side . By where I am standing , For now I need to rest those skinny legs LOL. I must have went up and down that ladder a thousand times. I ride my bicycle about 10 kilometers a few days a week, and I thought I was in good shape. Perhaps I need to start eating some spinach too, 'cause I was exhausted my the end of the day.
no man cave and certainly no goldfish. Simply a dry place to store some things and a work bench to bang on things.

I should had paid someone to do it, I don't know what I was thinking. I just had the wife massage my feet, I did not feel it until I stop working.

^^^ the heat saps you too and don't take offence but you aren't a spring chicken any more. I end up blowing out my arse doing an hours digging in the garden in Thailand, mainly i think because i got at it the same way i would in cooler climes. I think the sensible way is to just double the time you thought it would take and not rag yourself out.

Before anyone says why don't you pay someone to do it, that ain't the point i want to do it, so does BB probably.

Oh that spring chicken comment hurt, I am very sensitive about my chicken lags LOL
Yea I know what you mean, The mind is willing but the body ... well let' just say ain't cooperating LOL
But like you, I am not one to sit around doing nothing. When I told them at work that I will be retiring, and explained that I was getting older and I felt I was embarrassing myself, they tried to get me to stay for a few more years, They said just sit in the office and tell the young bucks what to do. How can you sit there and watch other people work? I would be embraced.
Yea there is no pride in paying some else to do it. is there.

Hey, you are retired. Projects like what you are doing are fun. You don't have to hurry as there is no rush..
    Right?

My welds using these cheap arc welder deals is still poor. In states I used a nice MIG and enjoyed it. So you got lots of time to practice.

Only input I have to the "Shop" area is make sure to install plenty of outlets. You can't have enough power.

Absolutely. I do all my property work and upkeep. It's rewarding, keeps me active and I enjoy it. The only job I have enlisted Thai labor is trimming my hedges. Most of that was driven by my wife who said " You know balancing at the top of a 12 ft ladder with a gas powered hedger is too much work". It used to take me 4 days to do all of them. Now a group of 3 come, trim them all in 1.5 to 2 days and take away all the clippings. I will say, it is still odd not helping.

What else we got to do here in Thailand, especially now with travel restrictions and hustles. Then there s the "Use it or lose it" which as you get older can create a downward spiral. You don't do a lot because you get tired, and you get tired because you don't do a lot and get weak. An easy trap to fall in here in Thailand where it gets hot a balls, and labor is so cheap.
But I hear you, and agree with your wife, some things are too dangerous, and better left to those younger guys who when they they fall they bounce.

So sticking to my not leaving well enough along, and considering the advice of at least keeping one side closed to keep the rain out, I decided to extend one side out to the wall over the water tank. It will also help to keep the water tank out of the sun and cooler, and also cleaner.
So I framed the roof, ant tomorrow I will go get three more roofing tin panels.
    New home project for 2022-roof2-jpg

At some point I will use cement blocks to raise the fence wall up to the roof height, and extend the back of the house wall to the fence closing that side up. and putting a door there. I will probably do the same thing on the other side, making it into a proper storage area and workshop,.
As suggested I will need some power in there. A few outlets and a couple of lights.

Yes, years ago i set about a a stand of that big bamboo (Nor Mai) without the right tools, namely a chainsaw and instead improvised with a grinder and a small circular saw blade heath robinsoned onto it because a hand saw wasn't doing it for me. All was good until a breeze whipped up and the blade kept jamming. Its was dodgy as fook and the Mrs called time after the third deep cut, one down to the bone which i still have the scar for. So yes i now make a health and safety judgement call on any job involving heights or in dodgy places or without the correct tool (which is less of an issue now).

Good idea. Is it me or does the roof not overhang the wall, i.e. where is the run off going?

Rome wisent build in a day. I am sure it took at least a week. LOL
I will put drip edge that will slide under the roof tin panels , and a gutter to catch the rain water and return it to my property. Even though the property behind our house is undeveloped right now, who is to know how long it would stay that way, and i don't want to give anyone the opportunity to say anything to me.

Its the Halley 6 - British Antarctic Station - its cutting edge in that it can move (walk) rather than just fall off the ice sheet when it calves.

In the spirit of not leaving well enough along. I decided to extend the covered storage/man cave area even more, around the corner, reason being that the door would be opening, near the water tank, and I could use the extra room anyway ,
    New home project for 2022-open-roof-jpg

I haven't closed the roof yet because I need to move the camera wire conduit you see on the top right corner.
Had a friend of my Brother in law come and put block where the fence used to be,
    New home project for 2022-interior-walls-jpg

and we close both ends and installed doors on both sides so I would not have to walk around the whole house to get in

Today, they will come and smooth the walls, and then I can move my tools in.

Nice progress BB. You going to add some air roof vents or solar fans to keep air moving? There are some good ones on Lazada.

I didn't think of that , that's a good idea, it is cool enough now but that's not going to last, I will look into it.
The walls were smoothed and for the past couple of days I was busy painting and putting up selves, and I put in the doors and locks, I will take some pictures tomorrow and post them.
Also it rained for the past couple of days and I am happy to report that there were no leaks in the roof.

Great Job BB. Clean and tidy. Now just a small fridge for some beverages and you are ready.
