Norton is right. Yuri and others who have fallen foul with the Puyai Ban have decided not to let him bully anyone in the village for the remainder of his tenure.
There is simmering anger over his attitude and actions, which have been brought into the open. He will definitely attempt to strike back but it will be at his peril.

Thanks also for your comment on the video. Made with a free video editing program called Shotcut - very user friendly for those who are less than tech-savvy like me.

    Hi Shutree,
If you look at the image above the one you referred to with the "very Thai piece of wood" showing the front of the house, you'll see the reinforced concrete ring beams that act as lintels while at the same time giving added strength to the block walls.

What is the gap between the blocks above the window and over the top of the piece of wood for?
Is there going to be something put in there to form a connection between the roof steel support beam and the concrete beam/window lintel?
Is it required due the blocks being considered non load bearing?

Understood. Looking at the picture it looks like the section of concrete above the wooden pillar is not continuous with the sections to the right and to the left. maybe it is the picture.

Yeah. That does look rather odd in that picture. Why even have a piece of support wood. One would think if a continuous lintel it would be sound and no support required.

Sorry PC if we are coming across picky. Just a question asking bunch

As Norts said, starting to take shape.

My view of the picture above is that it is deceiving.
On the left side of the window opening there appears to be a double thickness wall which is actually the wall with the verandah post aligned with the edge of the opening. This creates a false opening under the lintel beam.
There is most likely a piece of formwork still left under the beam which is being supported by the stick.
The "cracks" in the beam IMHO are where the ends of the shuttering joined.
Although I would have thought it better to use a longer piece to go all the way across the window opening it really wouldn't hurt anything.

^ I agree with your view regarding the shuttering join line impression on the top lintel.

Based upon what I have seen from previous pictures I am sure there is adequate reinforcement steel in the lintel channel.

    Loy Toy, Ootai,
Your comments are both on the money. Shuttering join lines and plenty of re-bar in the ring beam / lintel.

PC coming along, its amazing how quick the basic structure goes up but as we know its all the small finishing jobs that eat up time.

    Change of Plans

Back on 14.11.22 Fondles offered the following observation, "This looks to be more a Thai style build, Not Aussie."
Not accurate, but it did get me thinking about the amount of available space above the ceiling in traditional Thai designs. And how it could be used to recover some space we'd lost after we'd reduced the design 24 square metres to accommodate the fit out SHMBO wanted, but still remain within budget.
So after discussing the space to be gained via incorporating an attic, we approached the builder for his thoughts. "No problem" he replied. "How big an attic would you like?" We agreed ฿1,000 per m2 for an extra 50m2 floor space plus a 1.25m roof height increase so the space can be comfortably utilised. SWMBO okayed the cost coming out of the kitchen fit out so we still remain on budget (small win for me).

The image below, taken this afternoon, shows the revised design - still with a strong Aussie influence but now with a steeper roof pitch. More like a traditional Queenslander than a farmstead design it was originally based on.

The image below shows where the attic will be. Access will be via a set of fold-away stairs located in the ceiling of the study.

More to come soon - the roof is scheduled for installation 28.12.22

I think it does form a continuous beam , and the lines you are seeing are simply the impressions formed by a splice to the concrete form.
The supporting piece of wood, is there to prevent any downward deflection while the beam is curing. Even a small deflection could cause problems with the window installation.
On concrete slabs, to prevent deflection, and of course collapse , we used to keep the reshore for at least 28 days, by when the concrete would had reached 75% of it's strength . In your case a few days are fine,
I would not worry about it too much as you build is a one story and it is not a supporting wall. (all the weight is taken by the columns) . The only weight this beam supports is of the couple of courses of AAC block which is very light.

PS: your build looks great, they seem to be doing a great job.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

Pecia coming along. So did you gain the 50M2 just through altering roof pitch?

I'll ask, what are you going to use the space for? given heat rises and you'll be right against the roof radiator are you going to increase insulation and cooling to make the space useable/comfortable?

With the heat in the attic space, from experience I would advice against recessed lighting .
If I build another house I would not use recessed lights again.
The room is nice and cool from the AC, and the recessed lights are hot, the air in them gets heated up and rises into the attic, and as nature abhors a vacuum, the air in the fixture is replaced with new cold air from the room , only to be heated up .....
Of course the air in the nice cold room has to be replaced, and it is by hot air from outside.
In essence all these recessed lighting fixtures are small chimneys ,

    Funny story.
I could hear the click click of mice or something walking in the attic, and being the genius that I am , I decided to throw a bunch of Moth balls (naphthalene) up there thinking the if it keeps moths away it should do the same with other creatures.
What I did not consider was the we are also creatures, and the smell inside the house got so strong that I could not sleep. So I went up there, crawling on my knees and tried to find and collect as many of them as I could and remove them,, not an easy job 'cause I had tossed them all ver the place.
Anyway , when I got upthere (I had never done it at night) I was shocked by all the light escaping from the recessed light fixtures, it was bright enough that I did not even need to turn the attic light on.
And it got me thinking about my opinion about energy loss.
So I made boxes out of drywall by gluing them together with joint compound and paper tape. and then layed insulations which I think solved to issue of energy loss, but created the problem, of the LED not cooling down and their life span being decreased.

Yes, the room will be 5.0m X 10.0m; we increased the roof pitch by 1.25m to give full head room, making the space more useable.

The roof is Bluescope Zacs, pre-fitted with PU foam insulation. A friend in Prassat recently did some renovations, using the same material for his roof. I was impressed with how well the insulation works.

What we will do with the extra space is still a work in progress and will evolve over time - it may even become a hide away bar with views out over the reservoir. At this stage it gives us back the storage space we lost when we reduced the floor plan.

Appreciate the tip on the heat transfer from the down lights Buckaroo. Fitting boxes around the down lights will be added to the list

    Update on Progress

Unfortunately Nhy, one of the key member of the building team, sustained a severe cut to the back of his left hand yesterday afternoon. He's in hospital and will have surgery today for damaged tendons. It will require quite a few months of physio once the wound heals to get 100% use of his index finger back. It has really hit hard. He's young and a very hard worker and a top bloke. He's a Chang (Team Leader) with over 10 years experience with PU Constructions.
The incident happened when he was positioning a length of edge flashing and a gust of wind flipped the razor sharp corner across the back of his hand. Khun Pu the owner of PU Home & Pool Constructions was on site and took Nhy straight to hospital. It was a freak accident and it serves as a reminder about how dangerous the building industry is. Every day on site I see safety hazards that make me shudder. Things that I would never tolerate in Australia, but are the norm here in Thailand. This is a reminder, albeit the circumstances were less due to carelessness: the wind gust coming just at the wrong time. After this I won't be so tolerant of the hazards I see.

On other matters, the team were on track to finish the roof completely yesterday. As it stands the verandah roof still needs to be installed. The main roof is complete now. The bottom photo shows the team installing the flashing shortly before Nhy's injury. It will set back progress on the build, however I'm more concerned about Nhy's welfare. For a young man with a family I'm hoping Khun Pu has accident insurance that will cover Nhy's time off work.

Please do not post any smart arsed comments in reply about Thai's attitude to construction site safety. We all know it's not good. Please use this as a reminder about how it is incumbent on us to ensure people on our builds work safely at all times, irrespective of the difference in standards.

Are you going to utilise the roof as a water catchment ?
if so what type of storage ?
    plastic tanks or concrete?
its becoming extremely common in OZ now, i can remember working on an underground rain water tank, on back of gold coast, that was going to store storm water to water the common areas of a small housing complex.
