Engineering bricks and where to buy them

    Hi Everybody,
This is my first post on 'teakdoor' and I would like to ask if anybody can point me in the right direction as to where I can buy 'engineering bricks'? I need these to shore up some crumbling pillar foundations under my house. The rebar in the 'pillars' has 'splayed' the 16 year old concrete and is in a right mess and my idea is to build columns made of the bricks to support the concrete cross beams under the house. If you have any better ideas I would love to hear from you.

    Do you have any pictures?
I haven't noticed any engineering bricks here, although I have never looked. Usually brickwork is not load bearing in Thailand.
How high above the ground are the cross beams you want to shore up? What is underneath them, do you have a concrete slab to support the palnned columns? You might need an engineer to look at your problem.

As Shutree says, load bearing brickwork is unusual in Thailand. If they are available they would probably be online at onestockhome.com, so have a look there. Perhaps a better idea would be to build a hollow column out of ordinary bricks/blocks and fill it with load bearing concrete and rebar ? Although without pictures I don’t know about the practicality regarding access for filling those columns under a house. Any new load bearing columns are going to need footings too. Is it dirt under the house that you can dig down into for new footings ? If it has a concrete slab, how thick is it, does it have ring beams to take the weight ? You probably don’t want to be putting a load bearing column onto a thin slab that is just designed to take the weight of a motorcycle !

That doesn't sound great. A few supporting bricks may only be a temporary solution and not help the actual problem.
