Funny BB, About a year ago I tried to make my own using grey and black as I wanted to match the rock color I was going to use for my waterfall. The few I tried turned out Ok. Yours actually looks fine. Did you do that as a sand cast mold or?

I dug out a hole to a shape and put a black plastic bag in the hole and then poured the cement mix. I only tried it once as I got busy on the pool project. I still plan on a mini type pond by my shop.

Maybe someone can start a DIY project thread and we can all post in one thread.

The hole idea is not a bad one, I will think about that,
this is only a trial piece, to get my cement to pigment proportions right and develop a technique for random texture and shape. I will try one more small one with less red , IMO this first attempt looks too much "Jurassic Park " LOL but better than I had hopped for as a first attempt.
As I said for a final waterfall, My think is is that, I will make a rebar cage about four ft high, irregular pyramid shape or so, with re-bar, and skin it with wire-lath, give it a scratch coat of cement as a base and for structural integrity, then use colored cement for my final shape. I was thinking of creating some areas where the water will pool a couple of inches, put pea gravel in it and let the water run trough it before cascading further down. Perhaps I can plant a couple of water plans there and let the gravel and plants scrub the waters a bit more.
The cavity under the cage can house the filter canister. All these are ideas that can change as experience and suggestions by others come in LOL
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

I too think about a small pond with a waterfall, but I worry I would just end up with one hell of a mess. I have seen a Thai man build one out of just cement and it was beautiful. Have to admit the Thai can do amazing things with cement. In Laos I saw a man building one of the dragon statues, very cool. Well you lead the way Buck and I will learn from you.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of my sample triel. What I did was I dug a hole and pour in a small amount of sand. Then dropped 2 big rocks into the sand to give it a different appearance and shape. Then laid in the plastic garbage bag and poured the cement mix. It was really a trial run as the final one would have plumbing in it.

This is the quick water feature I built in front of my shop about 4 years ago. I want to remove it all and add a shape to it being that section of the driveway isn't really used for parking and my wife wants to plant her lotus flowers with other plants as it gets perfect early sun up until about noon. I will add a drain off to the lawn side so if I have to change out water I can. I want to add the waterfall to the wall to the left of the window and have the water run down. In the current pond I have 2 or 3 fish species and 9 large crawdads. I feed them pork fat and they have done really well but they will not get any larger as their environment is too small

I will not start it until I return from the states but look forward to the project
