Sandblasting Wood: All You Need to Know - Start Woodworking Now
I agree. The chairs would destroy your will to live. Maybe find a Myanmar type, or some other type used to working, and set hem to work with stripper, scraper, wire wool, hot water, goggles, thick protective gloves etc. - then clean, dry sand, sand, sand.
you will destroy the natural wood patina and need a stain afterwards (in my experience).

Table Quarterly?
^ No, I gave up my subscription to 'Table Quarterly'.
'Table Quoits' of course. This probably raises more questions, and I have no idea how to pronounce it.

Coits or Coyts
That's a nice looking living room Mendip. I don't know whether those windows are real stained glass or otherwise but they look classy.
I like my furniture to be nice clear wood with, if anything, a very light clear stain. Nice ponderosa pine is good for me. I have a friend who manages to get his wood supply by recycling old wood from very old farmhouses, etc. I pay him to custom build me some of my furniture .
Good luck with the projects.
The Table Quoits set of some discussion... When lockdowns allow my mum has taken to shopping in charity shops which now seem to be everywhere in the UK. She's forever telling me that she found 'such and such' for only 25p, etc etc, and unfortunately a lot of it gets sent out to Thailand for my daughter.
Along with the quoits came these two resin elephants, one with it's head stove in. That was my first lockdown restoration project yesterday and the invisible repair took me two bladdy hours.

Thanks Russell, but unfortunately they're not stained glass windows. What you're looking at there is nearly 15 years of accumulated grime.
I've been waiting since 2006 for my wife to clean the windows and I'm starting to think it just ain't gonna happen. Another lockdown project for me.
