Having a home built, looking for a beginners guide in English to read up on

    Hello everyone,

Ive bought land in Chiang Mai with my Thai wife recently and we are having a home built for ourselves on it. Looking to do reading on everything related to building in Thailand in English: such as different building materials and what differences are there in between them - for example, how are different bricks and pipes different and where should they be used - and everything related to building really. We are starting with an architect this month to plan the home, the missus has done a lot of research already and being a good husband I am trying catch up and read up on as much as I can and would really appriciate a nudge to the right way on where to start - any specific topics inside the forum, or guides outside the forum would all be ok, as long as they are related to building with materials and methods used in Thailand. Would be happy to post pictures as soon as my post count is high enough for that (I read on another thread thats how it works here). Appriciate any help, I know its a lot of work (but very exciting as well!)

Rule number 1 don't post using black font colour you can't read it use white, please.
Next, there are lots of builds that have been done and the guys have posted all about their experiences her on this forum you just need to go back and look at them.
We built our house 10 years ago and posted a thread on here. If you look for "ootai's wife builds a house".
If you want advice on specific questions then be specific with those questions don't generalise as you did in your OP (original post in case you didn't know).

There are plenty of guys with lots of experience here that are willing to give advice but you need to do some of the work for yourself first.

Anyway welcome to Teakdoor and good luck with your build, keep posting.

If your intent on building in CM make sure the house is airtight, sealed windows etc so that the air purifiers you will need can work efficiently!
    Whats the budget?

Solid directional post, Ootai. As TD has wealth of info within those respective sub-forums.
Most importantly to keep in mind as well, that all situations, budgets and builds will differ one from the other.
Hence - any ideas, advice and cautionary notes shouldn't be used as standards, but guidelines to what might suit the individual build.

Best to ya on the new project, ThaiBuild.

The difference being the burning season is in full swing everywhere but CM, it has barely started there - yet!
