Building with alternative construction in Thailand.

I am looking at building a home upcountry, in the near future, and am looking at alternatives to brick, such as straw and bale, with wood framing, for insulation and economy. Anyone tried it? Did you finish with stucco? Any thoughts, or links, or ideas would be appreciated. I am new on this forum, but have been here a long time.

Coconut husks/fibers - processed into whatever form one wishes.
    Last forever.

    Expensive, but alternative.

Guess depends on what you mean by alternative, facebook market Thailand
has adds for shipping container homes, one bedroom 2 story starting at 150,000 Baht, prefabricated laminated chip board homes bit more expensive. Used to be many bamboo strip homes out my way.

Have seen a few aluminum, with fact wood lamination, homes, all comes down to cost and long term cooling, Thais had it right from the start, stilt wooden homes.
Know farangs and Thais that went for the 2 story Mc mansion places, upstairs near on impossible to keep cool, brick heat during the day and the radiant heat rises all night.

Depends on where you are, millionaires row in BKK are stricter than jungle village in out nowhere Issan.
Once you have planning and building permission, whether from the village head Orbitor office, you have it and in rural Thailand, they don't expect much.

    Indeed.
Most cannot be bothered, as it's not mandated.

Wrong, laws are there, problem is most [ my area ] and many areas around the country just don't understand the laws.
Local beliefs and national/Federal laws are miles apart, first land I bought here, Orbitor office was going to put it in my name and issue me with a Thai ID card, no computers then, all paper records.
Land border with Lao, people marry both sides of the border, many have Thai and Lao IDs, no hospitals on the Lao side, so births are offend in the Buntharick hospital, so they are Thai.

Age old customs, new BKK laws just don't count [Yet} things are changing fast, but old ways die hard.

On a different note, some years ago there were a few bombings in BKK, southern Muslims, allegedly, but we had APCs patrolling out here, possible communist bombings I guess they thought.

Today, coming back from Chong Mek, lots of troops and troop carriers on the road, probably just training, but you never know.
