    New Soi.... after some negotiations

    Bit of a story here.

Last year our local area was apparently allocated govt funds to add a sewer system. They immediately tore up the main street and put in new cement cylinder system with various manhole type covers. When completed they stopped awaiting the next run of cash. Well that has happened and they started again and started on our street first.

Being I am not home currently they came and told my wife they will cut the cement and will start digging next week. My wife sends me a pic after the cut and I asked my wife "Why are they are going to install it on the higher side of the street?" I asked my wife to speak with them and explain water (among other things) only runs down hill.. She did. As it turns out the decision was made not out of effectiveness but because the other side was the main city water line so they cannot. Makes sense...55. I said "Well the sewer addition is really pointless as the water will always go to the lower side and has no value unless it floods (Which it has never ever done btw in fact we never have standing water on our street).

Well without any warning they had a backhoe come in and start tearing up the street. My wife ran out and said "Hey I can't get my vehicle out". Too late for now.

Trench dug. Wife stuck, for now. At least she has her Scoopy I to get out for food.

I called my wife and explained again about the high side and what are they going to do. I said the best way to do that to be effective is to tear up the entire street and repave with a proper slope to the sewer. My FIL and Wife went out and had a big pow wow with the foreman and guys about it.

Well Well. After some consultation (and some basic fluid physics discussions) my wife won the case for us from what it appears and they have decided to tear up our entire street and install it properly. My wife and I are happy (along with the only neighbor on our soi) that we get a brand new street.

HOWEVER......My wife is not getting out for a week or more in her vehicle.

Well it is kind of funny. She was laughing too when she called me. My wife has a very good sense of humor Snubs. Of course that was my angle in to say "Hey this might be a good time to buy a 500cc 4x4 ATV."...Of course that didn't fly.....Yet!!!!

Looks like you might have to be the knight in shing armour and make a quick trip home so she has a car.
You could leave yours there and hitchike but to work.
Or you could just be a chillie and leave her stranded there

Love her as I do, she is on her own. Knowing her she will find a way. I will just sit down here is Sattahip and watch the Wuhanians spread their new virus with everyone.

    Happy Wuhanian New Year.

Well played, and hopefully the street won't start to disintegrate with the first rains.

    Does happen, y'know.

Well I am hoping being we are the first soi to start up on that they will run out of govt money on a few Soi's over. But this again might be a good thing. I see an ATV in my near future...

True point Jabir. However the hopes is it is better then the one they tore up. I wont know for a few years....I will say I am glad I built the house before all this. Those big dump trucks, tractors and cement trucks beat our street up pretty bad.

Could always get Sid over. He's good at laying drives. Probably bring you some tortoise treats too.

You also have Luigi nearby if you need a tarmacker

Wife sent a few update pics late yesterday. They are rolling along quite nicely. Wife can now get to market on scooter without having to navigate her moto enduro course.

Still waiting to see what they mean by "New" street paving. I have found as many have here. What us westerners think they mean can have vastly different outcomes...

It wasn't me...In fact she didn't tell me. She had it done and then showed me at the gate install. Actually its a nice touch when all said and done.

Personally I wanted an entirely different gate style. I am just thankful it opens with a remote

That's a real madness, all the sewage constructions in any last soi. The city has got the budget based on the length of the sois, so they award the job to a friendly company, no matter whether it is really needed in that particular location.

Then, they make the inlet 1x1m every 10m covered by a shabby grid welded at a workshop friendly with the city office, a pleasure for the cars to drive over.

The negative impact is not only the destroyed soi but the fast disposal of the rainwater into river with all the rubbish people will add in. The water would be rather needed for the surrounded gardens and the unwanted substances would be removed by natural biological process anyway.

Beside that the rainfall in the northern provinces is not so huge that the soi would not help itself.

I wholeheartedly agree. As I said in the OP we have never had water build up on our soi even with the hardest of rains and we do get them. The Wang river is about 120 meters from our house but doubt any rain water will ever reach it from their system. Which is good.

To me the entire project is a waste of money and if you look at the piping it has upward angles along its route to the main sewer line so its not going to be effective. I was just thankful they did not use the trench/cement covers option along the entire soi. I would be driving over them in my truck and they would eventually crack/disintegrate and collapse. It appears we will have 3 big access drain covers and they will be in the center. I honestly believe had I not bent my wife's ear about it, it would have been a huge mess long term. I am just thankful they stopped and change plans to do the cylinder option and less access covers.

They say they will be done by Wed....

It's pity that the many govt officials who travel every year on various study programs around the world (with their wives and mia nois accompanied) - instead of looking for the latest fashion - do not observe the systems where it works properly over centuries (e.g. in Paris).

In Bkk, where a proper sewage is really needed, I have watched many times (comfortably from inside of car) how the water passing the grid at the side of the carb-stone flows happily further on...

Ad, of course, the commensurate blocking up and flooding of said pipes due to this rubbish . . .

BKK sewer system is just as filthy and nasty as NY or Philly. Putrid smell all the time. Rats, Cockroaches thrive. Big cities are tough to manage.
