I had a rat in my kitchen a few years ago and tried all kinds of traps.

    1. Poison - the rats wouldn't eat it.
    2. Sticky trap - it worked, but then I was left with a panicking rat thrashing about. I live in Bangkok, so there is no convenient forest to release it, also it was stuck to the glue! I told my wife to kill it and dispose of the body. She was disturbing efficient at doing this!
    3. Bucket of water with a stick taped over it and the tube of a toilet paper on the stick. The rats were supposed to be attracted to some peanut butter on the cardboard tube which would then roll over and dump them in the water. My rats were apparently gifted acrobats that ate the peanut butter and danced away freely afterwards.
    4. A friend had a kitten she wanted to get rid of. The rats ran out of the house in a blind panic the first time they head her meow. We've been rat-free ever since.

Yes but credit where due, he wouldn't want to risk scaring the poor darlings with a c-a-t.

Eureka! Chitty why don't you play canned c-a-t noises around the house?

They don't come off the sticky traps... That's the point.

We put a couple of them down with a pork ball in the middle. And then in the morning you dump the sticky trap plus the mice stuck on it into a bucket of water for a while before dumping it into a neighbour's bin.
I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic

Didn't fancy drowning them after being stuck on the glue trap, or in the metal cage.

Glue tray or metal cage into a black bin bag, spray of mozzie killer, tied up airtight, and next to the bin of the neighbour we didn't like.

What's that pic all about Lulu?

BREAKING NEWS : Micky has not taken the bait and four traps are still untriggered!

Eldest had a great idea about getting a bigger pit and putting the traps in the bottom so that Micky would fall onto them setting of the finale chain reaction.

^Good idea. Put some sharpened staves in between the traps just to lessen the odds of escape.

A c-a-t would do much the same, though the humane bit (see OP) is it might scare off the rodent.

Glue paper is the way to go. Then dump it in the bin.

Cheers Nev, it appears this will be the last resort as everything else has failed to capture the elusive Micky...
