I really enjoyed that thread - thanks!!

it is especially relevant as a carport is on my list of things to do (possibly) in 2020!

The bike-time night-time illuminations showed ingenuity, so now, I just need to get a cat....

The problem of course is that the steel is poor quality and will corrode, the roof trusses etc will provide a nice resting area for birds and the inevitable dropping guano will peel paint off your car, in high season the heat trapped from the "oven" roof will certainly make things cosy, the high storm winds that develop in transitioning seasons will almost certainly stress the structure, possibly to destruction, and those cats will either get eaten by pythons or catch rabies and kill you.

    A fine effort though.

I personally would have gone for a wooden structure with an 'atap kampung' style roof featuring vents allowing free flow of air and a steeper slope deflecting solar radiation. The aesthetics would have been more pleasing too.

    Why thank you Mr Sausages.

You are right about the bird shit, i have that covered and will install spikes next time along with ...tadah guttering. Which will be bog standard 6" blue water pipe cut in half lengthways.

Its 4m high, silver and wide open so i am pretty sure it won't be hot under there...i also am sure if it is hot the BiL will be straight on to me complaining.

These jobs along with sourcing a couple of decent lemon tree and then making concrete bases for pots (lemon and lime) so sit on will enure plenty of time for me to kick back and enjoy my post Brexit Chang discounted as the GBP will be 43 THB by then.

^ Mrs is liquidating assets, she's run off with some unidentified bloke who leaves cat paw prints everywhere, terribly sad.

^ Nah, she'd not go for someone that short.

I wish her luck, she's unlocked over 4 Mil THB of land bought some time back, and looking at another two parcels. The family will be lining up to ensure they share her good fortune. Good luck with that, there's a reason she has money and businesses.
