    Tiles or granite?

I'm about to surrender the storeroom to the kids, so it will henceforth be known as the bunker. I've removed most of the shelves and left one stack in case it comes handy; probably will, but if not it can go.

To suit its intended purpose the bunker should be tiled, and all was going sweet till a mate mentioned that granite is harder wearing and might be worth considering as a long term one off. More expensive installed, but now it's an option.

My original thought in round numbers was 20k all in for tiles, and from a brief visit to the local quarry on Sukhumvit granite would be more or less double.

The bunker is around 40sqm, and add a bit for stairs, ramp and sides.

    What do the pros think?

Tiles for the steps, but not impressed with the selection of non-slip/rubber for the ramp which could get quite slippery when wet, so how do we keep the utility of the ramp and kids from going ass over?

You can have large tiles looking like granite with very exact edges. When properly laid, no need a gap.

You need to consider how slippery the surface will get, i'd go some non slip bathroom type - if its for the kids to f' around in why spend a fortune

^Astroturf, thats funny. He was asking what the building pros think. Not a socker (football) fan.

    I'd take that for granite.

Uncanny Jabir but my house is built similar to yours except I can only access the bunker from inside. Measurements look about the same as well. Enough small talk. Tile it.

Granito could be option to granite but I would lean heavily toward normal tile.

Good idea. I wish I'd thought of that before the wife used it as a storeroom.

Jotun Jota Armour ... available in Thailand:

Non-slip coating for steel and concrete.
Jota Armour provides a coarse surface with non-slip performance in wet, oily and icy conditions.
Exceptional non-slip properties for people and equipment even when applied on a sloping ramp or walk-way.

This is exactly what we did with the basement.

It's by far the most practical solution.

There are issues of Astro turf and cancer

Artificial turf that uses infill made from recycled tires (“crumb rubber”) contains a cocktail of toxic chemicals, including benzothiazole, carbon black, and heavy metals. As the Mt. ... Children have increased exposure to toxic chemicals due to the unique way they interact with their environment.

I was thinking that Jack didn't literally mean astroturf tm.

Just the cheapass stuff in Thailand.

Like a roll of rubbish green carpet.

Not that Jack exudes 'cheap' at all.

Have you ever actually been to Thailand?

On a scale of 1-10 surely this would be a 1?

For this and a couple of suggestions from above, makes sense that if the ramp tiles are wet they would use the steps. So regular nonslip bathroom type tiles it will be for the ramp.

Prag: Fair comment, won't be around to see tiles wear out, but the idea is to dob dob dob so if floor granite comes out on top by a margin that'll be it. Are you on the Darkside?

A consideration, how long the kids will be playing there? The kids grow very fast, fly away as per their own ideas, not of the father's. What will be the subsequent purpose of the room?
(Unless another batch of kids is delivered... )
