I quite do not understand the tone of the discussion about different construction materials. I do not persuade anybody to build with my "beloved" cinder blocks, I am just sharing my experience that enables me to build with a cheap material available around, while supporting the local supplier and the local brick layers who like this technique for them so familiar.

Beside that, it enables me to build without the usual columns/beams that delay the construction time substantially and increase the cost as well.

And once the columns/beams are realized the house usually will not have the double wall for a better insulation, just a simple one by whatever cheap or expensive blocks/bricks. Then consequently, it will have the columns sticking out of the inside wall line, thus disturbing the furniture layout.

The double wall with cavity by cinder blocks can be load bearing (but perhaps the AA blocks can do it either, I haven't seen such), hence it enables me to built even very large structures as e.g.:

I personally did not make any value judgments, I simply described what I did and the reasons why I did it.
In my Florida home I used the cement block bearing wall method, but in the US there are strict standards concerning the construction of cement blocks. I wish I could had used them in Thailand since they are a material that I am familiar with but I have no confidence in the structural integrity of Thai cement block and or the familiarity of Thai workers with the process of load bearing walls..
By the way Nice block work in your picture, did you do it yourself?
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

I did make value judgement and if you built something like that back home you'd be arrested . Those blocks are not load bearing and in 20 years I have never seen a house built with those that didn't have columns. Why do you think they put columns every 3 to 4 m when building a simple wall with them. You haven't even mentioned using wall ties and most Thais wouldn't know wall ties are unless they come from Chang Rai where cavity walls WITH COLUMNS are common place.

To make those blocks load bearing you are supposed to form a column and use rebar and fill the space with concrete which no one does because it's to slow and costly.

As for insulation value the R value of a cinder block is 1 and even on a solid 8" block it's only 2 and cavities have convection currents hence the introductions of cavity wall insulation. If you are looking for cool forget it

Don't know why you are talking about hiding columns ..you don't have any but I do agree best hidden like Bonzai is doing........However go look at 50 million baht houses being built in Bangkok they still use single walls and columns shown.

My builder copied a house from San***** recently and built it for 1/3rd of the price..........I think we're all in the wrong game

Happy building and go buy some acrylic filler before it goes up in price you'll need it

Yes, of course with a help, and few more:

And of course, there are steel wires embedded horizontally under some block layers and some vertical rebars in corners and in middle of long walls in the cavity filled by concrete (in lieu of concrete columns)...

The block is quite tidy on this build but Exactly what is this you are building?
