Not a lot of personal protection equipment (PPE) on display. Turned up one day when they were spreading and compacting the fill in the foundations and two of the guys were bare footed.

So we ended up with 18 stairs, an even number. Apparently I'm going to have spirit problems.

The photo above is of the master bedroom on level 1 from the north west corner. It is 6m x 4m plus a WIR, ensuite and two lockable storage spaces.

The photo below is of the overall boss, Mark the builder on the right and his supervisor on the left. Apparently the supervisor has been involved since the beginning but this was week six of the build and we had not seen him previously. We are yet to see him actually do anything except chain smoke but Mark speaks well of him and the build is going well so he has the benefit of the doubt.

In the photo above the gent with the hat is the team foreman. It's actually his team so I think Mark has subcontracted the labour element to him. He's a nice guy and seems on top of things. I've never seen anyone not doing something productive on any visit.

In the photo below we are standing in the level 1 dining room and looking through a cutout into the kitchen. A 20-30cm wood shelf will be at the base of the cutout so it will be a sort of servery window. I'm somewhat hopeful that the various wooden components including this cutout base, cupboard shelves, doors, steps, staircase and deck railings all match. This will be my only attempt at fashion design, perhaps not enough for a Vogue feature though.

In the photo below we are standing in the home entrance and looking through the as yet unwalled small guest bedroom. From the left is the kitchen, then a small laundry alcove and then the guest bedroom bathroom. This bathroom will have two entrances. One from the bedroom and another to access the toilet from the small hallway that runs to the side entrance. Both doors are lockable.

In the photo below they are fitting a cutdown door frame for understair storage we had just decided to retain. It will be lockable and accessed via the master bedroom.

You get up early! Thanks for the pictures everything is looking great except, has to be a low point, the kitchen windows.
I went back and reread your earlier post about the kitchen and the amount of light and you said that the constraints of the design resulted in the windows.
I just get my head around why that would be the case, I would have thought that the same sized windows you have put into the bedrooms would have been OK.
I see you do have an opening between the dining area and the kitchen so that should allow some light through. When I made the comment about leaving the wall out I was thinking it was a solid wall. As I couldn't see any opening.

As an aside, this morning I can see the pictures in posts#32 and #33 that I couldn't see yesterday.
I can't believe that we put our lives in the hands of computers when that sort of stuff happens.

Anyway the house is looking good hopefully it continues to go to plan.

    Cheers

    Hi ootai,

I start my day at 4:00am everyday. Coffee in bed reading the news first though. My kitchen constraint comes from the kitchen design we've already contracted for and our desire not to open up the kitchen any further to the dining room. I'll share the kitchen design over the coming days. I redid posts #32 and #33 last evening as I could not see them as well on one occasion. - BiP

Does your kitchen design have overhaed cupboards/storage hence the need to keep the tops of the windows lower?
Do you plan on having a BIG exhaust hood and fans?
I don't know if have read the thread on our build but we built an indoor kitchen with a beautiful range and oven and neither has been used yet nearly 8 years on.
The outdoor kitchen gets a flogging though and sometimes the fumes from cooking chillies gets me sneezing away. Maybe its a bit cooler up there where you are than down here.

Thanks for the update re posts 33 and 34 I thought I was going mad for a while there, maybe I should re-phrase that to going madder.

    Cheers

    Good looking and strong roof.

If he's not already done it, encourage your builder to paint the Red oxide over his weld points.

Not saying it would, but you don't want the moist air rotting the main supports after a few years!

I was wondering about those massive post footings - why not put a slab on a sand pad and then build up from there ?
    Or maybe strip footings instead.
But I guess the ground has a lot of clay.
