Short walls cement rendering is continuing. Will be looking to find a cover for the water pump. Was not expecting it to be down so low either. And the electric power point on the wall is going to need some weather protection as well.

Final photo for today is the high component of the fifth load. Bought this metal shelf unit at Costco in Phoenix about three years ago and use it for kitchen racking of things we use a lot in there. Beast of a thing, each of the six shelves is rated to 600 pounds and I don't recall reading there was an overall limit for the whole unit other than all shelves at maximum load. I wouldn't use it for a tenth of that but still use stoppers and cups below it to spread the load a little.

Don't know if it bothers you, but those odd sections of tile on the top riser would stick out like a sore thumb and annoy me every time i saw them. He has lined up the pattern on the tread and the top perfectly, then spoiled it by using what looks like 2 middle sections of tile.

Why not to make another wall behind the tank, cover by roofing and have a storage room for any superfluous stuff?

Hi mikenot, I hadn't noticed but yeah, did bother me when you pointed it out. Decided to wait until this morning so I could see the view of the landing and steps from the deck and somewhat pleased that that is okay. So I'll live with it. Regards, -BiP

    Site Visit 28 January 2018

We took our sixth Hilux load to the site this morning. We'll continue to do a load a day and only pay a removalist for one trip involving the bulky items. We're somewhat resigned to the notion that it will be very early February before we take delivery and can move in. The wife is struggling with the uncertainty and I can see is aching to make the move.

Today we had two gents working on the remaining teak shelves, at least one possibly two gents continuing to do the final wood finishes, the gent doing the tiling of the front steps and the general duties gent who we now pay and is sleeping onsite overnight for security. Because the staircase was being given a final treatment we were unable to go up to level 2. We didn't do any cleaning today and didn't stay long.

Side entrance steps look okay. The wife had a gentle word and hoping for the same result on the front entrance landing and steps.

Last photo from today. The pile of belongings in bedroom 1 has probably peaked, we'll need to store more pre-move items up on level 2. We are keeping items away from the walls so Mart and his team can finish the house.

Chicken hole NPT. They'll free range in the front yard and have a roost and nesting boxes through the hole that will be covered/latched at night. Regards, - BiP

Hi Klondyke, I was thinking about something like that a few weeks back but then decided I didn't need something so big. As ootai mentions I'm doing a covered caged between the side entrance and level 1 covered deck steps. Although it looks like I need to find another steel fabricator, the quotes for various items from the gent that did the carport and side gates are a touch too high. Regards, -BiP

Mate, not a lot of shade happening under the carport.

Happy with that or changes to come?

Just thinking also that the larger concrete slab (heating up during the day) becomes a rather large heatsink and, at night, an emitter.

In the hotter months David the sun will have moved to the north and the carport roof will shade that full slab for the bulk of the day. Any exposure you mention would impact the small bedroom 2 at the front there more than anything else. The aircon in there is oversized about 2000 BTUs. Regards, -BiP

I don't think you can ever have enough storage space, crap just seems to accumulate & I am not a hoarder, you have to know also that Thai's throw nothing away! You really need one room to throw all the plastic crap and freebies they bring home

Quick question BiP... what are the distances between your units and the island? and at the end from the island too?

and the island to that wall?

I am wrestling with various kitchen layouts for us and some of the stated minimum distances are huge!

Yours looks about right to me, so whats the 'tale of the tape'?

    thanks...

Hi TD, will have to measure it tomorrow and post. I was a little worried accommodating the island might make it a bit tight on one or two sides but pleased to advise that is not the case. Even after adding the heavy metal rack on the hall wall side (photo posted yesterday I think), there is still enough room. Regards, -BiP

Posting some additional photos later in the day.

Mart our builder is talking about house handover on the 31st. We’re going to try to arrange curtain installation for morning of the 2nd and move in on the afternoon.

    Site Visit 29 January 2019

Took our seventh load of belongings to the site today, arrived around 10:00am. But first we went to Global House to see if the part we need for the hob installation had arrived. Still not in and no real ETA on when it will. Upon arrival we unloaded, including a large number of the wife's fruit trees and seedlings. We had the general duties gent onsite, husband and wife teak team, the painter and the gent doing the external steps. After a while Mart our builder arrived and we discussed possible handover for the 31st. We are aiming to move in on the 2nd with a removalist moving the remaining goods from Nan to Pua that day and a Nan furniture shop delivering several items we've purchased that afternoon. We'll get curtains installed on the 3rd.

The external landings/steps had progressed well. Teak shelves were now in the kitchen cutout, kitchenette, laundry alcove and walk-in-wardrobe. Clothes hanging rails were installed in the walk-in-robe and open robes in bedrooms 3 and 4. We tested the aircon units in bedrooms 3 and 4 again, very effective and whisper quiet in both the room and the compressor unit outside. I also tested the hot water heaters in bathrooms 1 and 3, both okay.

Pleased with the teak shelf in the kitchen wall cutout to the dining room. Wanted this to be a sort of servery and it seems to work.
