Okay, I'm reposting the layouts from post #32 here again since it appears some folks cannot see the full post #32 content. Not sure what the problem may be. Some folks are seeing them and everything I've posted is .JPG format. Descriptions are in post #32. - BiP

Thank you cyrille, I reposted the layout photos in a hope everyone can see them. But don't know what may have caused the issue so can't be assured of success. - BiP

The kitchen may be the site of our first design mistake. Not enough natural light coming in. We were very constrained by the kitchen design and have put in four narrow windows primarily for extra ventilation. Pondered the issue with the wife yesterday while onsite and we decided the solution lay in electric lights. - BiP

As the IT guy always said at my last job, the problem is "pebcak".

Thatis the "problem exists between chair and keyboard".

I will let you off this time as you have reposted them and now I can see them.

I must say the layout is very nice but simple. When I did that for my missus all she said was, "it looks like a fcuking box"

The views are very nice as well, so well done on your choice of land, how big is it?

Also I am not sure about cutting down the trees, I admit the view would be much enhanced without them but I don't mind looking at trees.

    Keep posting.

Maybe a couple ideas here. I have a slider to patio and 2 large windows. Going to need lights in any case but only at night given natural light.

Hi ootai, I've temporarily misplaced the government surveyors note but my recollection is 1,200 sqm. Road frontage is around 19.8m, stays that way until the northern boundary which is at about a 20 degree angle with the western boundary being longer than the eastern boundary. Beyond the northern boundary is a strip on unowned land we and the old land owner thought was included. We are working with the Land Title office to get it added to our land so might end up with an extra 100 sqm. - BiP

Nice place Norton. We just don't have the ability to punch any more holes through the kitchen walls. So we are going to accept we may need lights on more often then not in the kitchen during the day. Thank heavens I put a cutout between the kitchen and dining room, would have been super dark without it.- BiP.

So I'm about to launch into a whole series of catch-up posts of two photos each that will take us up to towards the end of September. I'm doing only two photos a post to cut down thread volume when someone asks a question and includes the original post. - BiP

Wife and I indicating to the builder to put the corner of the house here, four meters in from that post. After the government surveyors came through ended up having to be three meters. (My photo editing skills do not stretch to removing a finger.)

Worker shed and store onsite. The builder pays someone to be onsite 24/7. They are there non-work days and sleep overnight.

Our builder, let's call him Mark. Because we think that is his western name. Nice guy, professional engineer. Immediately knew I could trust him from our first meeting. Came with a real good reputation. We had just signed that contract.

Old house removed by previous land owner. Left us with the slab though, cost 5,000 baht to rip it out.

We're underway. We got to site two days a week, usually Tuesday and Friday. Since the team works quickly there are many steps you will not see photos. This was 25/8/18.

I was happy with the depth since the foundations were being buried in 'virgin' ground. (There were no below ground foundations on the old house.)

The wife handles the spirits aspects, I'm not a great fan of it but support her when asked.

Village water connected. Cost about 15,000 baht because they needed to bring a bigger pipe about two hundred meters up the hill to our land and go under the paved road. Good value I thought. Surprisingly good pressure and clean. The water is sourced from a strong stream that flows out of the world heritage cloud forest/national park to the east of us. I'm not going to drink it though.

Anyone know how to rotate the portrait photos 90 degrees? They are fine in all my apps on the laptop but not when posted here. Going to use landscape photos till I know how to sort it out. - BiP

A question; Why use concrete blocks instead of wooden boxing for the footings? Seems unneccessarily expensive but I'll be glad to be educated on the matter.

Hi Maanaam, builders choice. Was never discussed. What I emphasized to him over and over was I wanted a strong, structurally sound house at a middle of the road price. I further told him to forget about the contract schedule, I wanted a good job and not a quick job. He currently says we'll be in by the end of the year. I was going to be happy if it was May next year, since that is when the lease expires on the house in Nan city we are renting. - BiP
