    Land Measurement

    in Thailand
Converting Rai and Wah can be complex and can create legal issues when people do not understand what it is that they are signing at the contract stage. Ensure that you understand what you are buying and how best to deal with this. These are the basics for land conversion in the land measurement system in Thailand. Thailand does not have an Imperial or Metric system.

    • 1 sq. wah = 4 sq. m. 1 acre = 2.471 rai or 43,560 sq. ft.
    • 1 ngan = 100 wah (or 400 sq. m.) 1 hectare = 6.25 rai or 10,000 sq. m.
    • 1 Rai = 4 Ngan (or 1600 sq. m.)

sq. Wah sq. Ft. sq. M. ngan rai acre(s) hectare(s)
    1 43 4
    100 4,305 400 1 0.25 0.10 0.04

I grow what I like to eat but have no desire to raise animals except for fish but only what we can eat.

Things seem to be moving along. One of these days I will check out the meta data on the images and see when these photos were taken.

Don't you just love when things are going along fine and then you start thinking maybe I should done that but things have progressed too far along to change things so you say to yourself, "it is only the guest house, I can make adjustments after it is done."

Forms are being given a look over before the concrete comes. I believe he is standing at the front end of the house.

This morning I layed out the floor plan in our basement in Maryland to get an understanding how things will work out.

    Morning!

    looking good so far...

... are you in-filling and casting a floor-slab, or 'planking ' it and slabbing over?

Start with your land survey, add foundations, ground floor, beams, columns, 1st floor, roof, landscaping ..... You can even place your model on the Google Earth 3d underlay.

The forms came off and things look nice from here in Maryland. Crazy Horse Ranch-36087242_2088022044788074_4796535994893467648_n-jpg
This is the front of the house, I was wrong in post #59, that was the back.
A porch will run the full length of the front. I am planning to have it screened in and have a screen door installed in the center to improve access.

They must be using vibrators when they pour the concrete. Thai seem to use the odd rebar which leaves great gaps when the formwork is stripped.

That's not rain. Tis just a mornings mist. Thai rain is solid rods of water for hours on end which strip the trees of their leaves.

The subfloor is in place. I'm leaving the front porch bare concrete. I did not want to have any tile put down at this time besides that is pretty much what I grew up with.

The walls have been going up for four days now. They have been doing interior and exterior walls with same bricks. I would have thought a roof would have been next; provide some shade for the folks laying bricks. What do I know.

I have started researching cutting through bricks to install windows and doors, it looks pretty easy with the right tools. If you're asking why didn't I think of them ahead of building, well, I did but my wife is controlling the money on this little house build. It just makes things more interesting.

Nice stuff so far. Good luck with your plans. Seems you're not alone in your goal to live abroad part time. We met a couple the other day with similar goals. Spend summer in the states and winter in Thailand.

This guy had said he has a few guest houses wich will help him in that regard. I thought It would be cool to check the place out someday unfortunately the wife got the sense that his wife was a bit of a snob, stuck up were her exact words, so I guess that won't be happening.

Again good luck with the build and speaking from past experience don't let your mother in law pick the paint.

The lower of our place is made of similar bricks. They did pour in place concrete headers above the windows and doors. Not so sure of simply cutting them in later though you may find some material for the header later.

Our roof is on. This is the backside of the house that faces north. The top will be louvered vents to allow warm air out and have some light filtering through. If any problems from rain arise I'll change those out for windows I can open and close when needed.
