    New Stained Tiles

Couple of months ago I posted about the weeds in my garden. Since then, we've built an extension for the Gramps and it is now ready for moving in. However, just as all the remedial work is being done, I noticed stains on the white tiles as though it had just been mopped with streaks running across every tile. The tiles are a mid priced one from Boontavon. We've tried everything to remove them.

Is it possible these tiles are stained due to them being soaked prior to laying them? We've reported it to Boontavon who have had no reported issues with this tile.

Best to rip up and start again I think.

We have a few spare in the box which are spotless. They're being ripped up as I speak.

Yes. Could be from minerals in the water. Suggest you not soak the new tiles or soak in distilled. The soaking is to prevent the tiles from wick8ng up the moisture in the set guving you a bad set.

Try wetting a few more and leaving them out. Watch for cats, dogs or tigers marking their territory. They may be attracting them due to the tiles smell.

Did that yesterday and will see what happens. The ripping up stopped just in time as a represetitive from Boontavon will come today to inspect them and change if deemed substandard.

Are They porcelain or ceramic. Sometimes if ceramic the moisture from the setting material will bleed through the face if that's the case it may take several days to dry out. If they are polished porcelain they can stain when the tile is grouted if they didn't seal them first. The polishing process opens the pores on the face and will stain when it's grouted. I have learned all this the hard way I do tile for a living.

    Good luck with it.

After writing all that I forgot to say obviously those are only two of the endless things that can go wrong with a tile install.

Oh, go one, tells us some tales. It will be entertaining and informative. Doubly so if you used scantily clad female tilers to lay the tiles and you took some snaps.
