    Shop area

Now that the shop is complete, I have a few roll around items, like tool box, lawnmower, dolleys etc and I do not want to have to lift them over the sliding door runner. At the time all the doors were installed I chose not to have them buried in the cement as if something happens to them you have to dig them out and even if flush with the cement rolling stuff over plastic will crack anyway. With that said I had the guy down the street fab up a SST ramp that covers it and eliminates any damage going in and out. This is removable and only needs to be there when moving something in and out.

Some more landscaping, My wife is back home with my FIL and she can relax and do her thing. She finished both Lotus pots and got a nice mix of flowers and loaded the new one with more of the "Skeeter" eater fish. In the back ground against the shop wall we are starting to get our water plants in order. We will build up a small brick cover in front to cover the pots and leave them all in them in case we want to move them

One thing I need to do is find a sandblaster. I noticed that the cement border the contractor put in around our house is many different shades and colors. In the US we used to use a slight mix of HCL and water to remove stains and clean up the cement. Here I want to try sandblasting to make the color more uniform and avoid having to use acid.

Great looking flower pots JPPR2..very colorful ..easy on the eye..or is it a Urn.
To hide something ..or not make it stand out so much..people change the color to its background color..
So if it was the same color as the wall..not see it..or not stand out so much..

    Very nice looking home..

Thanks Biff, I am trying to break up the color a bit, I do not want any eye sores but a nice blend with some contrast.

I think an Urn is for us later when we get burned, I could be wrong. Albeit I could care less where they toss my ashes. Add them to the Lotus pots to use me as fish food and save a few baht.

    Cheers DM.

We are in the middle of some kitchen upgrades and more landscaping along with some strategic guttering out front to channel the water away. I will be updating soon. Next up will be a dump truck to take all the crap spread out all over that my FIL wants to keep He is getting better but it is a challenge.

Example: He had this old washing machine(like 10 year old). Had to wash in one side, pull out small sections of the load to spin, put back into rinse etc. We have a laundry room with new washer and dryer. Wouldn't use. Said his worked fine. My wife chewed him out and said she wants that old cracked thing sold and gone. So she takes him in and shows him the new washer. 2 days later he is all smiles says Man that is nice, I can put in washer and push one button and walk away and go eat breakfast then come back and hang it all. He sold the old one for 300 bht.

    Hey Thanks.

So today was funny. I am flying to Malaysia tomorrow for a business meeting for 3 days. I will be flying back home for 4 days to work on the house and hang with my wife and FIL. She was with me for last week or so then went home to meet me there. Anyway I had my wife order some of the same hedges we put around the wall of our house a year or so ago. The guy delivered them today and I said OK cool, I will plant them on Thursday when I get home.

    Trees delivered.

About 2 hours ago I called home to chat with wife and she zipped off this picture.

My FIL dug all the holes and planted them for me. He said he wants me to come home and relax..

I love the old guy. He is 80. I appreciate a lot. nice thought. In a way though I was sort of looking forward to doing some labor around the place. I still have the water feature thing I am going to do with my wife.

    Water feature update

So I went home this weekend for mothers day. Gives me 3 days to do more things around the house.

My project was a simple water feature in front of the work shop area.

First I measured it out and laid down the brick to size it.

After stacking the bricks my wife and I carefully installed the liner then put on the last row of bricks to hold it

My wife did the plant orientation and we filled it with water and added a bunch of skeeter eating fish.

Over all turned out pretty nice and breaks up the wall and allows the green look to be there.

Today as I was cleaning up the property a bit I met a few new neighbors

As I was moving the bricks this guy came flying out at me. I watched him closely. If you look close he has a cricket in its fangs. The things was super fast and was on his way. BTW, that is a 8" block. gives you an idea how big it is.

    Cabinet

Just got back from visiting Tanarat to see the progress. Man is this really a piece of work. The drawers slide in and out like the drawers on my tool box. Very smooth.

Tanarat showing us how the drawers are coming along.

He is getting ready to set the door hinges. All of this work is done by hand

How do they learn their trade.

    Do they go to college.

    Or are they self taught.

Got to admire the quality of finish.

This was a trade he learned on his own. it made him money when he wasn't in the rice fields. He Watched people he said. Was always looking at how things were built. He has been doing custom woodwork for nearly 50 years now. Loves the project more than the money he says.

He will carve his name on the inside of one of the doors and the date. He says this will be his last one, as I mentioned. He estimates this will take him another 4 to 5 weeks. We are not in a hurry.

After searching for a few weeks we finally found the tree we wanted out front by the gate. We wanted something that will fill out but offer some color as well. I believe its English name is Inthanine. In fact we also found 2 silver palms that I always liked. Saw them in Hua Hin at the Kings Castle.

I love this place. Just put a 4 to 5 meter tree in the truck and go.

This is how it should fill out and bloom. It has big broad leaves to offer shade and for about a month it has the purple flowers and smells nice.

They showed up and dug and planted all 4 trees and palms we bought. I am always amazed how inexpensive trees and labor is here for large mature trees. In the US this type of tree is $300 + and being its so long it would be required by law to have it professionally delivered. Add another $50 minimum. Forget about digging and planting it. You are on your own unless you want to pay another $75 to $100. I used to always plant my own stuff in the US, here its all included for the price. The big tree cost 2000 bht planted.

Did they wrap the tree BEFORE transporting it? If not, the wind will burn it before it gets to your house and will take months to recover from the trip.

Oh Yeah and that's a good point for others buying trees. Thanks Eliminator. They wrapped with the black mesh material netting. I have seen so many nice palms in trucks that are trashed because they do not wrap. They wrapped them well because one of the trees had a bee nest in it. When it was planted at our house the nest was still there and the bees settled back in.

Thanks Bobo that's great to know. While I am an engineer by education and career, I felt it was being built very well too. I am pretty picky and looked at the detail. Good to hear it from a cabinet maker.

    Cheers

Hey Mr M. Sorry to hear of the job loss. I know you had your strategy in place. Sue the hell out of them. Its the way of the world now. Might just walk away with more than what you planned on working to get.

Thanks on the house comments. It's about done for the big projects. Then its little things and fun stuff. Look forward to meeting up with you when you land. I am still at work here in Thailand. Been good. As long as I am having fun and enjoy it, I am OK. Hardest part is not being close to the house and my wife goes back and forth.

Don't forget about the '2 year seasoning' (being in OZ) for the entitlement to receive the aged pension.

Thanks David, I hope that I can swap the disability pension for the old age pension when I'm 65.5, and the 2 year rule won't apply. First I have to get permission to live overseas on the disability pension, but I'll keep that in mind for questions.
