After a week of working sun up to sun down the two guys (the lead man was her cousin) that wired the 3000+sqft farm house in Laos asked my GF to ask me if two hundred dollars was too much.

I was elated. After worrying for the week, as we set no price for the work to be done,my GF confidently saying "don't worry about it" that was what they wanted.

Not that I'm above them I would not look at your girlfriends box for less than 200.

Well, ok if she was really sexy I would.......And the moral of the story is?????

Maybe you could say what, in your experience, is the going rate for professionally spray painting a roller blind of that size, including painting both sides, masking the locks, etc?

I've assumed that since the two shop house owners told me 1,000 baht was what they had been told (and neither stood to make one baht, as they weren't in the supply chain and neither could even give me the name or phone number of their local supplier, just directions) and it was also exactly what my builder and the supplier told me separately, that that was the going rate.

I'd be interested to know what you (and apparently Johannes Black) think is the correct price?

    I'm sorry, did I misunderstood?

I read: bamboo roller blind for three windows: 2,5 times the normal price

I have at my home, quality bamboo roller blinds (2mx3m) for 6.000/piece and a few even cheaper.

So, if I read well, you've paid 30.000 for 3, which is 10k/piece.

    Did I misunderstood?

    Regards,
    Johannes

    Yes.

No idea where you got the idea about 2m x 3m bamboo roller blinds on windows from.

These are three 4m wide x 3.2 m high metal roller blinds fitted as garage doors, as routinely fitted to shop houses in Thailand, one of which is r/c (remote control with an electric motor).

(edit: and they cost 15,000 baht each, plus 1,000 baht for spraying a different colour, and 40,000 baht for the r/c blind. Sorry, but you didn't "read well"!)

No moral, but I expect an knuckle punch when I pay for the three finger exam.

I guess the moral would be to loosen up a bit or the second knuckle is as knotted as the first.

life is good, a plate with a candle awaits.

Thank you - I'm actually over the moon with it!

The tiler's got about another week or so to go, the carpenter comes tomorrow for the cornices, windows and doors are checking sizes again on Tuesday, then its time for the electrician to put in all the fittings, then the painters are back ...
... about a month to go!

I'm trying to say that as long as you feel as though you got a deal that is all that matters. And a step further in the end game does it really matter.

I keep finding these little plates with a flower and a few birthday candles on them. And I wonder why.

Still haven't figured out why people jump at the chance to post negative posts on Thai forums? to the extent they totally ignore the true story!
You got a great deal and I'm sure you are happy with it, well done.

Possibly early days, as although I'm more than happy so far I've yet to have the r/c door fitted, which is why I'm reluctant to post details of the roller company yet.

The delays aren't their fault as its a question of tying in all the different agencies (ceilings, painting, tiling, cornices, windows and doors, eletrical wiring, plumbing, etc) so that nobody gets in the other's way or has to come back too many times, particularly as one roller's electric & r/c, the two in the garage are fitted below the ceiing to maximise ceiling height while the one in the beauty salon is above the ceiling and in front of the window / door.

Once fitting's complete I'll give details and comments, as I will for Khun Oat from Standard Plus Windows who's coming back tomorrow to check door sizes now the floor tilings nearly finished. I have you to thank for Khun Oat's details, and so far I'm very happy with his service, product quality (after a factory visit) and prices although obviously nothing's actually been put in yet.

All I can really say about UPVC windows so far is that having contacted / looked at several companies the quality of service, product and price all vary enormously and it doesn't always depend on price (or whether you are dealing with a farang or a Thai). I'll post full details of quotes and impressions in the appropriate UPVC Window thread I started a while ago and comments on Standard Plus on completion.

As far as the "negative posts" go, I think some people just seem to thrive on trashing anything positive about Thailand and Thais, particularly if there's a farang alternative. 'Why' I've never really understood, particularly if they're not even here and don't want to be here but they can't seem to find anything else in their lives to focus on instead.

    Ho hummm ...

I'd explain, but I have a feeling you already know and I have increasing doubts about whether we speak the same language.

Oat is easy to deal with, Standards product is good and they stand by it, you do need to watch when they are fitting and let them no right at the start you wont accept shoddy workman ship, their fitters are ok but need watching, like most Thai companies QA/QC is what you will accept. We have found regardless that you will need to call them back to adjust windows/doors, seems to take them a while to adjust to temperature etc.

Oat came today to re-check door sizes now the main house floor has been tiled , and I continue to be impressed - to me, recommendations and reviews of suppliers, builders, etc are what's most constructive about this forum, and the rest is just window dressing.

Thanks for giving me his details; once the windows and doors are in I'll write up my 'experience' of all those I contacted locally, in Bangkok and in Chonburi.
