Do you think it's healthy? I read somewhere that quinine is banned as a medicine in the USA. People that need / want it just drink lots of tonic water.

I read it on Wikipedia, so it's gotta be right, right?

Quinine was widely used for years in the US for night leg cramps. I remember giving it to most patients in the hospital, but that practce is pretty much outdated. Quinine is still used for malaria however.

I am not sure how many bottles of tonic water one would have to consume to equal one 324mg capsule, but it has to be a lot. I drink cold soda water to quench my thirst in the heat.

I just looked it up. There is 83mg of quinine per liter of tonic water., so that would be about a gallon to equal 324mg. Normal therapeutic dose for malaria is 500-1000mg per day.

Hmmm, "Common side effects [of quinine] include headache, ringing in the ears, trouble seeing, and sweating. " Maybe you wouldn't need this cooling system if you weren't sweating excessively from all the tonic water?

But really, a farkin gallon a day?!? Does your piss have bubbles in it?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinine

I was on my third G&T one evening in Thailand and got to wondering if the tonic water still contained quinine - the little yellow cans didn't seem to have it written on them like the litre Schw... bottles in Oz do. So in looking that up I read the story of tonic water's origin - invented by British officers in India to mix with their gin in the evenings. Much more palatable than a shot of straight quinine what?

Now that may not be quite accurate either, but I like the thought of it.

    Sweating .... no .

Headaches - only if I drink a gallon of Chang instead .

Ringing in the ears ..... only when I fall over after drinking a gallon of Chang.

Trouble with seeing ...... see above .

It never occurred to me that quinine could be so troublesome . Which is a shame as it gives the drink a great ' bite ' .

But I must listen to the older and clearly wiser people on here and maybe cut down .

These sprays are very good for those who wish to maximise the chances of getting Legionnaires Disease.

If I keep drinking my Tonics I'm going to fall over with ringing in my ears , headaches , sweating massively and trouble seeing anything .
The same as Thais drinking Hong Thong in fact .

And if I get one of those spray systems I'm adding Legionnaire's disease to my sweating pain-racked body !!

    Blimey !

Loy Toy's idea seems much safer and cheaper after all .

Of course I could sit with the fallangs in the Mall at the cheapest possible coffee stall but I'm not suicidally miserable enough.
Best leave that to the likes of thaimeme and Neverna.

How is a spray really any different from a shower ?

    Nice edit, Wasp.

Back on topic, is the cooling to be used in Germany, England or Thailand?

    In your in-laws garden?

Ah, in Austria. Can't you just wait until winter to "keep cool"?

Hope you still got the discount.

As @jamescollister warned you, the humidity's too high. You'll find the misting fans are sometimes demonstrated outside, where they work in part by making you and everything else damp, but these are always demonstrated inside where it's low humidity.

    Sorry ...
In hindsight, and having first tested then bought one of the more expensive ones (9,900 baht) I need to revise my opinion and I can say that these do work, but it's very much the more you pay the more they work, particularly as humidity increases (50% where I am).

I'm not sure why, but the smaller ones just don't seem to have the capacity to cool the air enough while if you go up to the bigger size (and price - say over 8,000 to 10,000 baht) there's a very noticeable difference in coolong effect. Testing the 'Clarte CT901AC' against an 18" Hatari fan (which just moves the hot air from a to b) there's a difference of 5 or 6c, which is pretty impressive - more if you keep topping up with ice, but that's not really practical.

Having only ever used the smaller fans I'm surprisingly impressed.
