Price of timber - I'll try in construction

I have had no replies to my question in the 'Living in Thailand' forum so I'll try 'Construction.'

Does anyone know the approximate price of timber (per cubic metre) in Thailand?

I've just had a dead tree cut down and I want to get some idea of its value. I think it's either peltophorum dasyrachis (Thais call it araang) or peltophorum pterocarpum (non-sii). The chain-saw guys have cut it into slabs about 2200 x 100 x 25 but there's plenty more to do at the moment.

    Any info appreciated.

I doubt you'll get a response, other than mine, as there doesn't seem to be any guides to wood prices here. Just take it to your nearest mill and get what you can, which ain't going to be much IMO. Surely the guys who cut it up for you should know how much it's worth? After all they do it for a living, buying and selling wood/trees. Good luck.

I would have said the best bet would be to contact a sawmill before cutting. Then they can decide how long they want the timber?

They will come cut the tree and take it all away?

Permission should have been gained before cutting . All trees that grow naturally on ones land need permission to be felled so I believe.
She had no knowledge whether it was lawful or not to cut trees that grew naturally on her land.

Search for furniture manufacturers using araang wood "จำหน่ายเฟอร์นิเจอร์ไม้อะราง"
they might be able to come and pick it up if you are in the right location.

Don't worry guys, the cutting down of the trees doesn't seem to be an issue for the chain-saw guys. I haven't seen them since Thursday last week (6 days at the present moment). I can understand that as I paid them some money for their work (not the full amount, and there's lots more to do) and I assume they've gone away to have a few drinks and will re-appear when the money runs out.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Make sure they have not cut more and hid it. Sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees.

bobforest, where I am you are looking at 1 to 3 years jail for transporting undocumented lumber.
    Get the permits first.
