I await the pool building thread from STS when he returns to Isaan. Which pla will be chosen to christen it?
Where will he find a boat fom which he can drink beer and pretend to fish?
Will the slap homestead have been maintained by Por and grandma, or turned into a brothel in his memory?
Can't wait for the Nick Park denoument.

    Nah, just some old pipes
Some old pipes belong in the Hall of Opium at Golden Triangle Park. One never knows what cave or crevasse you might find them in.

Now I have heard speak of katoeys, pools and pipes. All good fun, just not for my crevasse.

All joking aside your pool looks great. Daily fun for the family and you can use it to teach the kids about water chemistry, and some responsibility of taking care of it with the rewards of use for them and their friends.

Good luck with it and please a few pics of those pool parties now. Oh and when the boys are in their later teens when their girlfriends decorate the lounge chairs. Not for me silly, for the rest of the pervs on TD!

Vientiane is becoming more attractive to the traveller every day, BLD. With salt water instead of chlorine I won't need me swim goggles.

I'm looking forward to seeing water in the pool with the man's motorized beer esky parked next to it.

Life must be good for some.

^Great thread. Green already sent. I own a lot next to my house, and keep thinking about putting in a pool, but can't justify it with an Olympic pool in the housing development.

Should be putting water in it in the next few days, will probably be swimming in it by the weekend I think, definitely got lucky by having a late wet season, I would hate to imagine what kind of shit fight it could of been building the shell now, been raining for the last 4 days here , looks like the wet has arrived, oh well, farmers will be happy, will post up some pics once it's looking nice. Of course it doesn't stop there, her indoors wants the walls raised and a revamp to the laundry / storage room and turn it into a shower/shitter room, here we go! Just when I thought I could put my wallet away, got some Vietnamese contractors lined up for that, used them before and always a good result, can't bring them in until the Lao boys are done or there might be animosity.

Hey Lao, those lads are doing a sterling job so sling them a few of these after work. As far as that farang goes, you can give him a Luke warm cup of milk.

Your pool looks just great .. good size and design, and appreciate the info on the cement and additives, as we will probably build a similar size pool soon in SDD....after we build more walls to keep the neighbours dogs, chickens and kids out!! I am sure in about 1 week from completion your younger son will be swimming laps with his brother. And about now start to generously offer free swimming lessons to all the wife's good looking girlfriends, to add some scenery to watch while downing your coldies!

First BLD, I have to say I was a bit doubtful of putting in a pool in such a small space, but you have pulled it off with flying colors. Kudos to you and the build crew. You should have many years of pleasure out of it, but what is better, your kids will be in heaven. My boys had a pool in Arizona while they were growing up and they loved it.

I often times think about building a pool, but am leary of the skill set around here in Udon. I also think back to the hours of cleaning, but your enjoyment factor will be high. Maybe a small lap pool where I can cool off might meet my needs.

Anyway, great thread, great job and enjoy your pool.

I just popped home to drop of a tarpaulin so the building sand can get moved into my driveway, seems the vietnamese team couldnt wait to start and had already knocked a hole through the laundry/ change room, my guys were busily tiling the walls that got cement splattered during the pour, thats there last job. The guy we had ordered the stainless fence from and his team were also there installing it behind the spa , mental it was! counted 10 scooters and 2 trucks in my driveway,The dog was in his element, no ones told him about the vietnamese penchant for dog eating, he better watch his ass next couple of weeks.
Looks like i will cough up the last payment to the farang tomorrow, plus a healthy tip to his team, they have been fantastic

no one was more surprised than me, I maximized the space I had and I think I got a pretty good result, the farang that I contracted to do the job told me today that he had never built a pool so close to walls and structures, I think he was winging it , anyway , knocked of work at 4 this afternoon and swung by the minimart for some beers, jumped straight into my. New pool, lurrve it, just got to get my head around the maintenance thing now, it's all good, k
