Many a cold Chiangmai Night I have longed for a fireplace. I think it's a great idea!
agreed, can get damn cold (relatively speaking that is!)
i recall a few years back being in a bar just near the Uni (is it The cave, or something)
it had a fireplace if i recall correctly!
In our fruitless search for ordinary brick we actually found a small shop that has a huge supply of firebrick, including arch firebricks. When we asked why the owner said, "So Germans can build fireplaces...."
A fireplace in Thailand is for pussies.

flame ambient fireplace
product id 120-2978
Breakthrough innovation lets you add a sleek, modern fireplace without gas line or chimney. It is perfectly safe for any indoor environment with its odorless, ventless operation that emits no smoke. The flame burns with bio-ethanol fuel, available at any local hardware store. 1-litre of fuel burns for 3-5 hours. Installs easily, just like a picture frame, on drywall/stud, brick or stone with included hardware. An ingenious, modern design in stainless steel.
We recommend that the ambient fireplace be installed on a solid, fireproof wall such as brick or stone. It should be installed in a room that is well ventilated and has at least an 8-foot ceiling; the room should be approximately 250 square feet large, at the least. It is not recommended to use more than one fireplace at a time in one room.
price: $1,598
With temps as low as 11-12°C added to humidity, some nights in November_December are pretty freezing so I wish I had a chimney in my house. Just for a little bit wealth when staying in the living room watching TV and avoiding wearing socks, jacket.
My neighbor, in Nong Khai, has a fireplace in his house. But he's wafer-thin and very old.
I'm not like him at all.
