All going well mum and baby can go back home tomorrow. Sadly not our home as that is about a month away from completion.

SBF - I wish I could have logged in earlier to say what a great build you were doing but I've been stuck in Dubai of late and TD membership seems to be a bit subversive for local internet tastes.

More to the point though, many congratulations on the birth of your daughter. My son spent a few days under the UV lamp when he was born a few years back. It seemed a horrible injustice at the time but all is soon forgotten when they get home. Good on ya fella, and get used to relinquishing pole position as far as the missus's priorities are concerned. I think I ended up in equal third place with the cat, but happily at least ahead of the dog (the ranking was never actually confirmed so I could be being a little over optimistic on this).

The best advice I can give - get in some nappy changing early on when they are just feeding on milk to earn your 'good father' brownie points before they move onto solids as, seriously, at that point it becomes something menfolk are ill equipped to deal with.

Mother and baby went home this afternoon after all the jaundice treatment.

Sadly I also have just had to come back to Singapore for a couple of days. Back in Thailand on the 8th so I can finally have a look at how the house is progressing.....

Final bill from the government hospital was 4500 baht for C-section and 5 nights in a private room.
I've had visits to the doctor here in Singapore when I've been suffering with a cold that cost more than that.
However, I'll reserve judgement on the cost savings of using the govt hospital until the missus is totally healed. It wasn't my idea, I wanted her to go to a private hospital for the birth, and would have insisted on it if I had known that a c-section was on the cards.

So anyway, what I really meant to say was I can only give an update on the build on the 8th - and that's if I can get a good enough internet connection coupled with the patience to upload photos here!

Congrats mate. How are your other children taking the birth of the newest one? (If you dont mind me asking)

I know my firstborn was quite upset when the second came along.

Over the next few days we had windows put in and a very basic kitchen - which I don't think will get used much anyway - she is already talking about cooking outside on some cheapo gas stove.










I also counted up all the receipts and figures jotted into books and the damage so far is as follows:

Land: 230,000 baht

Labour: 215,000 baht

Materials: 380,000 baht

Total: 825,000 baht


Ofcourse now we need furniture, an aircon unit for the main bedroom and some kind of wall to keep the neighbourhood dogs out etc etc.

Let's face it, it will never end, but I reckon next time I am back, we can move in.

Whoever sourced those contractors did a decent job.

Were the builders/contractor and original land owner connected to the family in any way? ie special family rates?

The lady selling the land was a family member by marriage, and she needed the cash to finish building her own home nearby.

The builder is a friend of the family too, but not related. I think he will get quite a lot more work in the future off the back of this house. By this moo ban standards this is a quite a posh little house!

The hospital were concerned about that with our daughter too, she was yellow for a while. About 3-4 days I think. They said that after that it should go away and it won't be an issue. It went away after 3-4 days and she's been fine. She was about 3 weeks prem. Not sure if that's also a factor.

Slim, its turned out just great. Great build and you kept the cost pretty near perfect. Not done yet as you've just added a babies room...Oh, oh...are you getting cut anytime soon? A lot cheaper than a baby.

Very nice but I reckon you'll need guttering.

Personally I wouldn't worry about a wall around your castle for now - from the pics it appears that whatever neighbors you may have are quite a bit ways off...looks fairly private.
Maybe consider decent outside lights to ward off curious parties at night (along with the ghosts of the land).
Possibly consider some shady trees (palms , high bamboo) on your southern and south-western exposures.
