    Water pump run dry protection

A friend has jsut bought a house and says his bore hole has enough water but the pump pumps faster than the "well can supply" he says he can put a timer on the run for a few minutes every hour but would really like some run dry protection. He says it is a submersible at the bottom of a 8" hole.

I was thinking a float switch but they need room to move unless there is one available with a donut shaped "floater" on a shaft then it doesn't need the swing room of a normal float switch.

    Anyone have any experience.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all

I have an inline flow switch, about a meter after the pipe from my well comes out of the ground.

The problem with a flow switch is when there is no water they shut the pump down.
But you have to always go & hit the reset button.
