Why? Bum guns are readily available here in the states.. They're just not used for bum guns as those are technically illegal.. I've also seen wax ring seats there too, but most Thai's think just cementing them to the ground and no anchors is acceptable and easier to do so that's the usual install.

A hand held sprayer is not illegal in your kitchen sink, but in many/most states (can't speak for every state) bum guns are because they don't want the risk of someone leaving it sitting in a toilet or it being contaminated by splash water while in use and if the pressure drops, a back siphon is created sucking contaminated toilet water back into the water system and contaminating it. That is also why most states require a vacuum break fitting on the outside water hoses that breaks the vacuum and releases the pressure when the spicket is shut off.

Otherwise do you really think we aren't clever enough to have thought of such a thing before the Thai's? We've been there and done that a long time ago and found out how dangerous it is the hard way, as there have been some rather serious illness out-breaks attributed to it and similar instances in the past.

There have been events in the past when people have been cleaning out there septic systems and left hoses in the waste water and for whatever reason the local water system was then shut off causing a back siphon and seriously sickening an entire community hence the reason they are generally banned.

With wells in Thailand and constant water system shut downs it's only a matter of time before it happens there. I suspect it already has numerous times it's just not been investigated or reported enough to the point of finding the source and honestly with so many around already highly unlikely they could trace it down and with so many already in use not likely it's going to be eliminated any time soon. From my own personal experience I used to see them lying in a filthy contaminated bucket of water next to a squat toilet or other, all the time while I was there some locked in the on position to refill the bucket, that is the worst case scenario.

If I had a well system though I'd not use them, or at minimum be very cautious, because if your pump ever fails for any length of time (being an hour or so and the pressure becomes negative it can siphon back to the well and could contaminate the entire well, requiring a new one to be dug. Regardless of where our water came from? When there we always boiled it first.

BTW for anyone using them, especially women, they also cause yeast infections more commonly known as candida, the constant source of moisture in a warm dark place that doesn't air out well is a great source of fungal infection if not dried well after use. And for women any splash on effect from using it rectally is an absolute risk of vaginal infection and urinary tract infections as well.

If you have burning irritated but itching skin in that area, front or back, get some anti-fungal creme as that is likely the cause.

I know for sure Jan ain't got anything wrong with her and only she and our little Girl would be using it it , my Son in the UK says they are illegal there too, of course I readily accept what you say to to be candid I think its some what OTT safety first ,ours is just affixed to the pipe clip and can;t fall anywhere except about 6 inches off the tile floor .

I'm guessing that it's because you mentioned that the US used butt sprayers before Thailand did, then discovered that they could contaminate drinking water if the sprayer was left in contaminated water and banned their use, while Thailand is still using them.

I didn't come away from reading it with "superior" but I can see that someone else could, if they were reading your post critically.

^^Well of course PiWI it's not so much about where it hangs or someone intentionally putting it in there, although like said those nasty buckets of water beside the dumper in many places in Thailand are breeding grounds for potentially the nastiest, worst case scenario and I always see bum guns and hoses permanently sitting in those to refill them.

People have kids that do mindless things just because they're kids, elderly people not paying attention the list of possibilities for scenarios is really endless and as I said you may be diligent but not necessarily your neighbors and their actions can make you, your family and an entire village seriously ill (even think Ebola sort of scenarios). The thing is we have been down the road so it's not an overreaction unfortunately there have been deaths and all sorts of havoc in the past over such contamination so that's why the regs were enacted to avoid a real mass causality scenario. While at times officials are "the sky is falling types" disturbingly enough in this case it's not just an imagined risk.

Ermm yeast infections are not limited to women nor are they the only cause, moisture sources such as that are not well dried and obviously NOT sanitarily cleaned, are great sources for those sort of fungal infections, especially in warm climates like Thailand. Have a look around the web, look up candida.

I had my plumber purchase a bum gun here in Oz and install it for my darling to make her feel more at home. It was called a French bidet interestingly enough. It would never go near any water it could suck up, and seemed safe enough to me. In our new home in Oz I haven't bothered and I don't think she misses it.

The one feature lacking on a bum sprayer is a way to dry off. That's why I prefer Japanese toilet seats with a warm air ass dryer.

Yeah a bidet is a different thing altogether and when installed has special requirements to meet local codes. Most of these are exceptions because they don't hold water so no vacuum can be had and the water source installs must be above sprayer level.

Hand held bidets can also be found around, the point is, here in the states there is no national standard, they are local codes though most have adopted them, of course as with anything one can go around those codes, but my answer was to WHY they aren't readily available here, and how one needs to be cautious when using them, but certainly no one is going to come barging into your bathroom with a warrant if you install one and you can also get them if you search using the terms "bidet" or "hand held bidet".

I meant to include that contractors however have to abide by codes and therefore many are not permitted to install either in new homes or after the fact, it'd usually be a DIY unless the contractor doesn't know better or doesn't care about the codes and just goes for the money regardless of his license, there's no shortage of those sorts around to be found.

Well of course in Florida bum sprays could be illegal now if you called it a handheld bidet and multi-use spray seem all would be A-OK.

Tried to find this Florida bum-spray code violation but alas google let me down.

You could get a Bum Gun. Take note this is a gun not a spray so in Florida it would be A-OK.
