    Laying down sod

I'm looking to put down sod in my yard, but have no idea what time of year I should be doing this. With rainy season coming, is it a good time to do this or not? Should I be waiting until rainy season ends and then do it? Maybe seasons don't matter at all - I don't know. Thanks in advance for your helpful advice.

wet season is not the best time.
dry is technically better so you can control the watering.

You want to avoid watering new sod during the day as the heat the moisture can generate in direct sunlight can damage it- during rainy season you can get periods of rain and sun, which wouldn't be a good thing.

As Necron said, it's better to plant it at a time when you can water it at the most beneficial times of the day.

if you've got the time, put it down in sections over a few days. IME, your best bet is to put it down in the late afternoon and start watering it ASAP. water it again the next morning before the sun hits it.

    lather, rinse, repeat.

I had some turf laid late January. I wish I'd waited until the wet season because it was a fukker to keep wet enough.

Good drainage and proper base dirt airation preparation is the key along with buying sod that has a good layer of dirt on the underside.

What happens here is some suppliers cut the grass sod too fine and the ability of the grass to take root is compromised.

Also roll it with a heavy roller every 2 days and only water the grass in the very early morning or evening.

The key to having a hardy lush lawn, as opposed to just having some grass that requires a lot of attention is deep root penetration. Grass needs to be trained to send it's roots deep and you do this by having periodic heavy watering on a well airated base, followed by denying water for 3 or 4 days. This forces the grass to sink it's roots deeper to get to moisture as the surface earth dries. It's hard to achieve this in the wet season.
In the wet it will only shallow root and often over root.

I ended up over rooted on my 1st visit to LOS, it had a lot to do with over watering.
