Damn, I wish I would have...?

What do you wish you would or wouldn't have done when you build your house here?

Get a bigger waterpump? More outlets, an extra wire to the ceiling junction box so you could have separate dimmer and motor speed control for light and fan, double-glazed windows, higher ceilings.

I'm in the process of building and I go to the site every other day and frequently I'd noticed that something needed to be done differently.

In one instance if I were to do it over, would have built it with a higher foundation.

This is something I never seen mentioned here.
Get the wife to discuss the house layout with the village shaman before construction.
We were advised to relocate a door for harmony and prosperity, after completion.
Obviously if your wife does not subscribe to the beliefs of the shaman, or there is not one in the village, this does not necessarily apply.

Unfortunately not possible now, house looks like a motel, all under one roof. Only one I could throw out, is me.
Hopefully parasite number one, FIL, is headed for the monkey house.

Yeh, but really just the FIL, everyone else pays their way, he was good as gold for the first 8 or 9 years. Then the village got rich, Siamese rose wood, illegal logging, we [he] couldn't keep up.
New homes, new cars everywhere, even with the easy life he had, he had to show more.
Now he's looking at jail [hopefully] wife won't disown him, bleeds us for about 25,000 Baht a month.
Life time elected Government job [no work involved] bleeding us and still not enough to keep the big man face. Got done in the illegal logging business, so sad to bad. Jim

    Built a mancave.

I still have enough room on the 2nd floor to install a pool table, decent screen for the footie and small bar, but I have a sneaky feeling that it may become my downfall, and I may acquire some more "mates" that I don't really need,

I like being anti-social, and I have just the right amount of mates at the moment.

If a mate dies, then there will be a free slot for someone to jump-in. I will inform when that happens.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Jim, put a fooking contract out on him. The local cops would probably be yer best bet.

Wish I hadn't left the parquet floor upstairs in place when I bought the house.
    Should've tiled the upper floor.
Wish I hadn't bought cheap veneered/laminated chipboard furniture.
Should've bought metal or plastic furniture.

Not an option, BIL, his son is the, something like the county clerk, in charge of area emergency services and pays the police wages.
Whole extended family is government, that's why he may be on the way to the monkey house.
When caught by the forestry/ border troops with the ex governor, they told the troops, can't touch us, we run the show.
Cousin is the boyo in charge of the area, troops were from Surin, didn't care.
Changing times, old man thinks he's going down, he'll walk over the border into Lao, family there. Paper work will get lost and a month or 2 he can head home, all forgotten.
The way it was, not that long ago, but electricity and computers are here now, computers don't forget.
    Jim

After, that's why we had outside soldiers in the area, this is commie country. Lots of weapons and a total dislike of BKK.

    Yep....
The broader mountainous regions have been a resistant hotbed for decades.

    Still applies today.
