Thread: Grout Sealer

I was at Homepro today, asking about Grout Sealer and they guys there looked at me like I had 3 heads. They told me that no extra sealing was necessary - that the grout had a sealer in it. I know back in Canada everyone seals their grout. Anyone have any ideas on where to buy it in Thailand (Chiang Mai specifically) and what the brand name is I'm looking for? Thanks

sorry can't help with sourcing here...used it once in Canada..waste of time methinks.. a few scrubbings and effect, if any, was lost. I think many home improvement products are actually snake oil.

I would think any kind of clear lacquer would do. Just to seal the surface. Very good ventilation is important in a bathroom here, mould loves a damp humid place.
I was going to seal mine but... now I just scrub more often.

Homepro sells a product called HG cement grout film remover, ganesh.
In a white bottle with a blue label.
It's imported from the Netherlands.
We also take the 'keep it clean rather than seal it' approach, and this stuff works well.

It does exist, but the gooks at Homepro are just there for show. HG make a product if I recall that was available at Boontavorn in Pattaya. You could also try regular cheap stabilizing fluid that all builders use.

I am with those guys, we use grout sealer in the west but better to get the missus or maid just to clean more often in the west. Preferably in the appropriate uniform.

Yes, on the whole they tend to be thick as pig shit and have no idea what the company actually stocks.

Homepro sell "Diamond Stone" "seal and coat". Does a good job.

Use an epoxy based grout and not needed.

Sorry - just re-read the shit I wrote

Either way, a sealer is a good idea. PVA or another type of sealer is generally a good option anyway (re-apply every 6 months or so)

^ easier and cheaper to buy the maid a brush...

Bleach . In a spray . Easy.
