    Free Standing Cooker

Hello again, this time with a question about cookers. My wife is American and wants a freestanding cooker, much like the ones standard in the states. However, I've never heard of any of the brands available here. Fagor, Smeg, Tecnogas, are some of them, along with Electrolux (which of course I've heard of before).

The biggest problem with buying these is that most stores in Chiang Mai have only 1 model, and if you want to get a different one you have to order it special. I'm not a big fan of spending 45,000 baht or more for a cooker that I haven't even seen in person before.

Curious if anyone has any recommendations on cooker brands and models?

    Thanks,

    Ganesh

I've heard people say that they've found gas ones in Macro for cheaper than 10k, but I've never seen them.

I just have a gas flat-top built in, so the top looks like this:

Then an average electric oven that was about 7k in Homepro.

I've never really seen full stoves in Thailand despite people saying that they have them in homepro, macro etc.

You can get a great 4 burner gas stove with oven "American style" at any Lotus or Big C. Samsung. GE, and others offer a decent product for a decent price. 12,000 baht max. Unless you are a pro no reason to go above that. I have made do since the floods that killed my old stove with a Samsung at 9,000, cooks, roasts, bakes quite well. I do love to cook.

Dont be suckered in to spending the big bucks. We cook Thai early morning, lunch, and then both Western and Thai for dinners and nary a problem one. 7 days a week.

Oh yeah sometimes the burner will not spark but we have a lighter. Cheers.

Same thing I have. A Siemens. Used everyday for 9 years with no problems at all.

Product Showroom - Cooking - Free standing cooker - HP223510P

I bought it at a local Roiet appliance store so expect there are many retailers selling Siemens in Chiangmai.

Yeah, that's basically what she's looking for. Heard from others that Siemens wasn't great - so glad to hear you like yours.

Go to the kitchen forum here, and look at some things I have cooked up in it. Nothing lasts anymore so get a bargain.

I also have a Severin small oven, so two ovens and 4 burners.

Sure others have had problems. Most important consideration for me is to make sure whatever you buy has a customer support operation near you.

Not sure what that's got to do with this being untrue.

    OK
I live in Don Meuang, and have lived in BKK for 6 years.

Quite simply put, Tesco and Big C don't stock full stand alone stoves as standard. That's all there is to it.
