    Air Con and Q-Con

    Hi All,

I have a question about air con - I've read the thread that talks about how many BTUs you need, by size of the room, but wonder if the requirements change with the use of double wall, Q-Con bricks? My walls are 7.5cm q-con, a 10cm air space and then another 7.5cm q-con.

    Thanks,

    Ganesh

But of course it matters, imagine your whole room is made out of glass and it stands in the hot April sun, the cool load is way higher than when you've got a cavity wall for example.

It's quite difficult to calculate the cool load and BTU required, don't believe the calculation they do in the shop because there are a lot more factors involved (example: time of the year, time of the day, materials, wind, location, surroundings and much more) and the actual calculation is a few pages long.

Thanks, I assumed that it might be somewhat easier to air con compared to a single red brick wall, but what does that mean in terms of buying air con units? Do I go a size smaller than they recommend? I'm in Chiang Mai, by the way, since you mention location matters.

I'd go a size smaller anyway.
Thais usually want to be able to achieve refrigarotor temp.

I don't know what they recommend but probably an expensive (big) model since they want to make money. I'm afraid there is no way of telling unless you really do a calculation for it, otherwise it will always be a guess.
