    Congratulations to the Construction Contributors

I, and I'm sure a number of other TD people, have tuned into the various construction threads over the past few months. I want to congratulate those people who initiated (and also the others who contributed) to the threads to make them very interesting and informative reading.

It's been a pleasure to follow the trials and tribulations of the respective persons and the problems and delights that they have experienced.

To Nigel and Jan, Koman, Stevefarang, rickschoppers, Roobarb, Bankao dreamer, Marmite the Dog, Bettyboo, Kurgen, Boon Mee, benlovesnuk, terp80, and Old Monkey - oh, and I almost forgot Simon43 - thanks for all your contributions (I hope I've not missed anyone).

I know that many of you are at different stages of completion - Nigel and Jan have nearly finished but Nig has decided that it's time to close up shop, Koman's nearly above ground, Stevefarang has a palace to build a wall around, rick's back to check on the building, Roobarb (I'm not sure where he's at as his thread is time-delayed), Bankao's thinking of his restaurant, Marmite's got the think of ways to tying down his kite, Bettyboo may have created a record of 8 pages of text without a photo but he's now out of the ground, Kurgen's learning to swim, Boon Mee's got his wall, I've forgotten where ben's up to, terp's got to fill the bottom of the wall to save his land, and Old Monkey's probably draining his swimming pool and starting another project - oh, and I almost forgot Simon43 - he's probably onto another hotel and wife.

Have a great 2014 and thanks for your contributions.

It's been a pleasure to follow follow a positive contribution such as this. Sometimes one gets sick of the "shooting across the decks".

Thanks kindly Bob, you are very welcome.

Over the years I to have enjoyed the likes of Sabang ,, The now flounced Doc ,, etc, it's only fair we have a crack when our turn comes around.

It's a shame more don't make the effort to do photo threads as we all love the pics.

Yes, Thanks Bob. This forum has its ups and downs, pleasures and troubles, but we've had consistently great build threads since the start of TD. As Nige says, I've enjoyed many over the years, so it's nice to contribute...

Thanks Bob. Echoing the other two, I've always enjoyed the construction threads and it's good to have a chance to contribute.

It's been great to see so much activity here of late.

this forum is one my favorites.
The building skills, imagination and talent of TD'sters on this forum is first class.
And the work they put into their threads is again first class.
If one wants to learn about building in Thailand as I do, read, read and read some more
    the posts on this forum.
    Thank you all muck muck.

Thanks from me too. My current build thread is the first photo thread I've ever attempted, so I had to figure out a few things about posting pics. My internet connection is not the greatest.....so it can be quite time consuming uploading photos...and the uploads often fail....

I too enjoy all the construction threads.....lots of variety and lots of ideas.....

There has been a lot of threads lately with some long term members crying because of the deletion of threads and posts.

Fact is the vast majority of stuff that has been binned has been absolute shit.

TD lives on its picture threads, the Building Cooking and Travel threads are first class.

Also the brilliant first hand information shared by the long term expats is fantastic and incredibly helpful.

One can gain very important information just by asking.

TD will be around for a while yet.

This post will probably get binned too but I just have to write it:

oh, and I almost forgot Simon43 - he's probably onto another hotel and wife.

I was just reading these comments and enjoying them and they suddenly ran out .

A few of you know me now so you know I'm another who reads the Constructions and completely agrees with Bob that the Construction Threads are brilliant . You can be very well prepared just by reading these and of course following the pictures .

Even I've got a very few pictures in there which are superb examples of what NOT to do .

And even that is worth knowing .

Whilst good, it's not current. I think all in the OP are still moving forward, albeit at a snail's pace for some.

It was intended primarily as a thread for those building in Thailand in the fist place I seem to recall.

Many thanks Bob I have spent the last 5 years or so looking with envy at people building there dream homes on this forum. I wondered at times whether I would ever do it myself hence my user name. Fortunately I am now in the position to fulfil my dream so I am more than happy to share the experience with you all.

I hope I'll ever get the money to start, it seems so far away and the only thing I can do is plan the build and build it in my mind.

    I really envy you guys

This is the forum of interest to me. Always has been. Look around a bit and you find a mix of the sublime to the ridiculous. Throw in the trials and tribulations whilst building in Thailand and you get great construction advice coupled with Thai soap opera drama.

As you look though some of the early threads and move to the more recent what is noticed is a huge increase in availability of building materials available locally.

For those who built several years ago was pretty much do the best with what you can get. Much better and easier these days.

That's very true. When I first came to this area about 7 years ago and started looking around, there was nothing much in the way of suppliers for building (or anything else except farming stuff)

Now we have a big HomeMart about 2km down the road....plus about half a dozen other outlets.....and now Global have acquired 40 rai and will be building one of their mega stores even closer than HomeMart. The selection of stuff if really quite good and there even seems to be the beginnings of some kind of after sales service... at least the Thai kind of service....which should not be confused with actual service...

Great thread and what a surprise to see a whole thread of positive comments. Like many have said I am amazed at the homes you can come up with. Not envious, but impressed. Also like to add my thanks to everyone who spends their time and effort to compile and post these threads.

If it is a Bamboo palace in the jungle or a great wall of Thailand, they are a real treat and a challenge once I get my bloody boat finished and into the warm areas.

    Thanks again
