    Paint recommendations please.

We're close approaching painting time on our little home, so please can any of you lads recommend me some good quality paint please, , brands and where to get it.

I don't mind paying for a bit better quality.

I need ceiling paint, , wall paint inside and out.

    Thanks in advance

We used Jotun for the outside after the floods and found it to be excellent.

TOA 4 seasons is a pretty good paint and cheaper than ICI and Jotun products.

Use this paint for inside or outside and tell your painters not to add water unless absolutely necessary.

They tend to add 30% water and take some of the customer's paint home to pretty up their own dwelling.

...beyond that, just make sure they're decent, clean, and organized painters.
    Still difficult to come by.

Or just do it yourself - better choice.

I've got a big fook off tub of ceiling paint here!
Internal doesn't really matter, as long as it's washable.

    Nige,

If painting concrete, The preparation and the method are as important as the paint.

The concrete should be acid washed . The first coat should be thinned out and the second coat as it comes out of the can.

The PPG Pittsburgh paint rep told me that when I painted my new garage floor. It worked for me.

Why thinned out? The surface of concrete is hygroscopic so absorbs the liquid in paint. The first coat should be dilute so the concrete can absorb the thinner (water) and the pigment then sticks to the concrete. Basically it is a wash not a coat of paint. He told me 80% thinners, 20% paint.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Well in the case of a water based/acrylic paint the thinner or carrier would be water but if it was epoxy paint then it is something different, the name of which I do not know. But the methodology remains the same.

    Nige,

It is not easy. I was told to etch the concrete with muriatic acid but the only reference I can find is for floors not necessarily walls so i could be misleading you.
But the sealing the surface with dilute paint first, does work.

VN you was about to paint the floor it needs to be etched.
The wall need to be primed I think it to do with moisture.
This mite be a tip for painters, don't paint in direct sunlight.
It is to do with sunlight makes the paint dry to quick.
    This is mainly for gloss.
With my work painting polyester with a added wax for finish,if the surface is to hot or direct sunlight.
The product will not cure properly

I've just had a look at a Home hub catalogue whilst I was sitting in the recycling shed and there is indeed a huge tub of wall primer I reckon 5 litres, , at the moment 6.30pm we are going tomorrow all though that will change during the night.

Nigel, did one coat of stabiliser and two coats undiluted Dulux weather shield on the outside of the house in LOS,all bought in Homepro Chiang Mai, same inside also but using interior emulsion. slabiliser saves you doing the first pissy coat.

Anyone who dilutes paint is a moron, or a dodgy painter trying to save money. Toa, Dulux and Jotun are all good products.

TOA have many products and their sister company Thai Toa sell the cheaper paints.

4 seasons is actually a very good paint as long as you prepare the surface to be painted correctly. Why waste good money on a farang brand name?

90% of all emulsion based paints sold in Thailand are delivered in my tamper evident plastic buckets. No fucking tin shit.

I used Beger for my wood stain and latex emulsion for my exterior and interior walls. Good products.
