Thread: land parcel water drainage approach

i am asking for your experience again,
i have a 19 rai land parcel in chiang mai. approx 440m L x70m W

it has a slope over the length , from the road to a stream of 3-4 % or 6 mt elevation drop from side to side.

the natural flow of water is of course from the road down to the stream.

i am planning of building two long french ditches along the land borders carrying the down flow of water from the road down to the stream and slopping the land across its width to drain rain waters. (2-3%)



any insight on my suggested approach? or how would you plan the water drainage?

difficult to say without seeing the proper contours

French ditches are Ok in normal weather but may be overwhelmed in the rainy season

i did not preform proper land survey yet, all i have is google earth estimations

best to walk the land whilst it is raining hard!

mind you, any water run-off normally creates it's own channels, so you can work out where to put ditches from those

Do you have access to a tractor and a deep ripper? I would rip the ground parallel to the contour lines so that any rain that falls is used effectively to improve the soil.
