    Building During Rainy Season

So after months of trying to figure out what we want to build, we have a house plan and are ready to go. We have submitted the plans for approval, but because of Songkran we don't expect to hear back until after the holidays. That means the earliest we could possibly start building is May.

Is starting our build, a 2 story home, just before rainy season a bad idea, or does it make any difference at all? Should we be waiting until next October at this point?

    Thanks for the advice...

We started our build in March and the building was pretty much enclosed by the beginning of June. Once enclosed, working inside is no problem. If you can, see if the builders can at least get the roof on by the end of May.

He'll be lucky to sober them up by the end of May - you forget Songkran

You may be right, but one month might be enough time to get a roof on.

If you are not in a big hurry, wait.

    Couldn't be a better time.
Concrete needs at least 30 days of continuous heavy soaking to cure to 80% strength...so let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.

As is often the case and the rainy season is less than rainy, hire a couple of ladies from a nearby village to keep the columns, floors etc wet. Try to keep from enclosing the roof until you've achieved your 30 days, chalk up each rain-soaked day lest you forget.
You are now off to a great start.

I have built during the rainy season. Once. Not again, not worth the aggravation.

Depending on soil type, and weather you need piles......
If it is a soupy muddy type it will be a quagmire.....

If you manage to get your groundwork finished before the rains come, you should be able to continue without too many problems

unless you have a poor access road
