Floor Tiles Help Needed....

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a stone floor tile, granite, sandstone etc 60x40cm or similar to lay. Prices, opinions, companies most welcome. I live in chiangmai but can travel to Phitsanulok, Tak etc

I have already got a quote for Terracotta clay tiles, and porcelain tiles.

This is to be laid on concrete slab 150m2.

there is a stone place on the road that Kamtieng market is off, the same road that Tesco-Lotus is on

Look around here for some ideas.

I purchased some sandstone tiles few years back in Saraburi.
Depending on which tile you select between 900 and 1500+ baht per sq meter.

Best ask in the cmai forum on, hmm, the other site: you'd get a lot of generous folks with their suggestions.
BTW, most cmai stone providers buy at a huge place before Tak. Been there, done that; and plan to visit again for slate for a bathroom once another trip or adventure makes another trip worthwhile. It's by guess and by golly; if I could recall exactly where, I'd tell you. Just ask at a few spots on your way south.

I can't help you specifically, because I'm over here in the USA right now. But we are installing a granite floor on the ground floor of the house we are building in Nakhom Pathom. We were going to install marble tiles, but we liked the idea that with granite, the seams are a lot smaller. The granite is also a lot cheaper than the marble tiles.
We ordered them at some stone place, along some road outside Bangkok (again I'm sorry I can't be more specific -everything was in Thai). I also can't remember the price, but it was pretty reasonable, again compared to the marble tiles. The area we are covering is about 170 sq m.

I also spotted this cool design decorative tile, for about 790 baht, that we will install in the main entrance with a narrow black border. Something about it really appealed to me.

I quite like granite with a matt or non polished finish, so maybe I will go with something this.
I like sandstones light bright feel and aesthetic, but I think too expensive for the coverage we have to do. Maybe we can use it in just the kitchen area?

I would like to achieve something like this, not neccessarily with the edges cracked they can be straight. Just a nice stone light tile.

Mainly the rectangle porcelain tile made to look like stone, and is not sqaure and uniform, but staggered. If anyone has seen something similar please let me know. Regards

yes, that is best outside as it is non-slip

in a kitchen you need a surface that can be easily cleaned, so polished stone is the best

Yes around Ban Tak... 20 Km north of Tak (main road). The are around 5 factories besides the main road which sell granite. Most is imported from Indonesia.

The trip from Chiangmai to there will pay for itself. Better visit at leas 3 factories , the price difference between them can also be huge.

While I'm thinking of it. My wife was telling me this morning, that it will cost 350 baht/ sq m to install our granite flooring. I have no idea if that's reasonable or I'm being ripped off.
But just a comparison, for you Ben, as you look around and price shop.

Easy to lay the tile in a staggered step pattern but I have yet to see a porcelain tile that looks like stone.

I have a different problem. I am building a house in a village in Surin province. I found some Campana tile here in Bangkok at Boonthavorn but I don't want to haul it in my van all the way to Surin because of the weight. Anyone know of any good tile retailers in Surin with a decent range of products?

stone costs more because of the cutting and the laying has to be more precise

Have you noticed, maybe the one thing that Thai's do very well, is install tiles.

I would like a stone tile, staggered as above. Im not sure if likely but unpolished and worn edged if anyone has seen this?

I want to be hitting the 300 badt m2 mark because im very tight but if I can find what I want upto 400 badt m2.

^if you want a honed finish and killed edged you have to ask them to for it. It's likely a custom order. It would be in Bangkok.

That's why it's best if you want a professional job done go with folks like Boontavarn who employ the craftsmen that can miter the edges properly and basically do a proper job.

Hi Dr.A I have some of the best builders of thier trade in my opinion, as is shown in the house im building, as I have whittled them down over the last 3 years. However I didnt really get what boonthavarn was, but i now get it was a building company (of which i dont need).
I do have a lot of experience, but mostly in wood. Im looking for a stone place that will do limestone/Granite/travertine. Matt or natural finishing and maybe with worn edges.
I have builders who can build, but giving relevant insightful information is not what builders are neccessarily known for. The best way I have found is to find it myself.

Im not in Thailand so Im just putting it out there for people who might have an idea already. I know from driving chiangmia to bangkok that Tak has stone, but just wanted to know of anyones experiences.

I have 150m2 and what the approx stone flooring as shown above, if anyone has any information, pricing or other that would be greatly appreciated.
