^ I stand corrected, my terminology is wrong! so what are the reinforced slabs of concrete called that are laid as floors then concrete poured on top?
The ones I was told about do the same job but have a air space inside for insulation? ideal for flat roofs?

you could have a "green" roof which would be a good insulator

just plant the roof with all sorts of things....

^Agreed though its not quite that simple, I have been looking into it for a few years now, drainage needs to be well thought out, also type & depth of soil and which grasses will grow.
The hollow panels with the name that escapes me at his time add an extra layer of insulation for little cost, I will find out the supplier.

Maybe you are thinking of the hollow core slabs or plank.

PCC is one company that make them and supplied us.

    Here is the site

Q-Con do a aerated concrete flat roof panel which has excellent thermal blocking and is light weight - I am told.
I have been advised that http://www.architectexpo.com/index.php is well worth attending as every product available in Thailand - and more is on show.

    Roof panels here http://www.qcon.co.th/products/property_e2.php?id=e204

The Q-con panels are probably the same as all the others. They're reinforced concrete slabs and not made from the same material as their blocks.

We pay the builder when the house is finished.

normally a builder will specify stage payments, as they need to pay their workers and possibly buy materials

eg 30% when the basic concrete structure is complete

20% when the walls are complete etc etc
Well they are building 15 houses in that area. I thought it was general practice to build the house first. We have paid a booking fee of 40,000 baht.
Actually I haven't got the mortgage yet but the bank have promised me the cash when the house has been built and they say it's worth the money.

You have an exceptionlly trusting builder there Chalky ,, cant be short of a bob or two either .

Do you have a picture of the finished building please ? I would be interested to see how the flat roof blends in
If I decide I don't want it, then he'll sell to someone else and keep my deposit.

Chalky, have they finished any in the complex as yet?
Can you tell us a bit more about how the roof is constructed?

No, ours is the first. I'm looking at the drawing right now and trying to decipher them. Although I can read Thai and have a degree in engineering, I'm still confused.

I'll scan them(if I can) and post tonight.
