Interesting BM. You have any photos of the inside?

Is the inside a reflection of the currigated (sp) exterior?

Plans to paint the exterior to make it more pleasing to the eye?

Is this a full time residence or something to use when your in the dog house?

Great project - but why? Man cave? recreating a trailer home? What's it all about?

Will you be expanding it with a few more containers?/

Looks good, though I'm not sure about the louvred windows. You should put a living roof on it - it would soften it and keep it cooler.

I have two teenagers - it would be ideal.

i have 4 of those 40' containers utilised as a workshop.
Had to build a roof over them, install air cons, plenty of vents and it's still gets warm.

at least put some insulation on the top, or a secondary roof

Containers are used a lot as on-site construction offices. If on site I would "borrow" some boiler cladding to make a "tin" roof but in the sticks it needs a cheap bamboo and "grass" roof for shade. Otherwise I am inspired.

Interesting stuff Boony and I look forward to seeing how you decked the inside out.

A 40 ft container is about a 100k, which works out to about 3000 a square meter. Once you include the pad and finishing costs it doesn't really stack up financially I think.

Unless you had the container already, or needed something portable.

I think I would want it a little less container looking.

Perhaps really open up one main side it with large foldable glass door so it can be open in the day should you like to sit looking over the garden, and can fold back closed in the evening.

For the same money you could have a little hardwood knockdown put up.

I looked at some last year. The supplier I saw had 20ft containers at 49000-58000, standard 40ft ones for 76000-83000, 40ft high cube containers for 89000-93000 and 45ft ones 115000-135000. For about double that, you can get a refrigerated one for the summer.

^ Yes, that's what I realised. Compared to a second-hand teak house from a village, a container seemed like a worse, more expensive solution.
