Module prefab houses. You own it 100%. Move anywhere.

    Interesting.

No idea of quality or anything else about the idea. Interesting concept though.
You own your house 100%. You may move it at any time, anywhere. No head ace or risk-taking with buying land. Got tired of Pattaya? Try Phuket for a couple of years. Or why not Chiang Mai. The choise is yours to make.

Pre-fabrication means the house will be delivered in sections and assembled on the spot. Module housing means you may start building your house with a base unit and extend at any time. It is never to late.
    Certainly cheap.
Pre-fabrication means the house will be delivered in sections and assembled on the spot. Module housing means you may start building your house with a base unit and extend at any time. It is never to late.

The house is built with European standard with frames in steel, walls with 7,5 cm thick thermo blocks that will give good insulation against heat and noise. Floors with fiber cement and tiles on top. All electrical wiring comes grounded and meets Europen standards. The house is placed on piles.

There are lots of available accessories such as windows and other extra equipment. Choose what ever suits your taste and/or wallet. Since everything is standard it becomes very cost effective.

You get a base unit at only 179.000 THB. A complete base unit together with one additional unit will cost you less than 370.000 THB and a 3-unit (1 bed room) under 520.000 THB. Together with some extra equipment and a furniture pack you pay under 500.000 THB in total.

Thought some of ye may be interested.

I suppose it probably isn't that cheap compared to building.

Sounds like 1 bedroom, kitchen/dining room and living room = 500k. Plus you probably want another bedroom = add 180k.

Suppose under 700k for 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen/dining room and toilet, that you legally own and can move anywhere you want is alright.

    Prefab an 'interesting concept'?

    As old as the hills.

Wouldn't touch this with a 10ft bargepole. I'd guess it'll start degrading round about, oh I don't know, as they leave the site?

Website may be a good indication of the 'company'.

Blimey. I was thinking one unit should be 35sqm.

One 'bedroom' and livingroom and kitchen and bathroom in 35sqm.

A variation of the theme ..... a portacabin:

These can be added to until you get something quite big. Here's their site.

Detached House in Saphan Sung, Bangkok in Thailand - Listings of properties for sale/rent | DDProperty

Theres a hotel in Aranyapretet made of these things.

    Le Blocs :

Le blocs @ Aranyaprathet | A hip space to unblock your imagination

Also a little shopping centre made of them just down the road from our house. Seem to be catching on at places where there is land for rent.

^ they have built a small set of apartments near me from containers

look pretty good, as long as they have sorted out the insulation

they could be easily dismantled and moved by truck, just disconnect water and electrics, unbolt from the frame and off you go

I think modular houses are a growth thing, but I have thought that for over 20 years in fairness. We do build houses in very old fashioned, inefficient ways really. I like a house that you can untether, and take someplace else should you want to.

That's called a caravan. Or renting.
I think you would find the reality of moving one of these as pictured is less than ideal.

The technology exists to make houses energy efficient, modular, cheap and portable. It should be utilised more by the people that have been sold an empty dream all of their lives, and voluntarily submit themselves to a never ending treadmill in pursuit of this illusion. People should learn from experience, not reduce themselves to being dictated to by vintage dogma.

I think a higher number of people in a country where they can't own the land their house is on would.

Anyone remember Billy Connolly's World tour of Australia show. He passed all the wooden houses along the road, you buy one, they move it to your land.

Quite a marketing advantage in this country. Surprised some expat really hasn't made a go of setting up such and aiming directly at foreigners.

But of a slightly better build than this lot.

More and more people are making their homes using a pre-fab method. Not because they're portable (because generally they're not), but because they're cheaper and better built than ones made insitu. Seems to be fairly popular in Germany, Scandi & Aus.

They can last a while these prefabs.

There are quite a few of them still in Longbridge, Birmingham UK, that were originally temporarily put up for factory workers during WW1

The arguments against modular prefab homes are
    a) people, by and large, don't want them, if they did they would be more popular given they have been around for ages. There was a company in Oz when I was a kid, sold houses you could put up in a weekend with just a spanner..

    b) It goes against free market principles to say we must have them, they are there if you want, just not many want them, that's why they are not popular, especially affordable or good. The price only comes down with mass, and the mass by and large is unattainable.

These guys do 35 meters for 700k. What's Whimpy done for less? Until someone can pump out custom connectable rooms for say, 2500 baht a meter, they won't work in LOS. The local option is just cheaper and more preferable.

If you have money an want portability in LOS, buy a knockdown.

Can't people put proper roofs on pre-fab houses?

Cardboard box style has been out a few centuries by now I think.

I cant really see this idea taking off in Thailand Mao.

Most if not all of those people who would want to move their porta prefab, would be those who have just found out who the wifes brother really is :-)

So where are they gonna move their porta prefab to ?
Are they gonna go buy a new wife some more land to plonk it down on ?

Also, can you imagine some farang finishing with his Thai wife, then telling her he's taking the dog and house with him ?
