Thread: A bit bigger concrete project (follow-up to 15.10.12)

OK - I've finished the small concrete project (see 16.10.12), thanks to the advice of TD members and some physical effort by me. It's now time to consider a bit bigger project.

Anybody got any idea:

1. what thickness of concrete is required for a driveway?

2. what's the going rate for Thais in the boondocks to do a driveway 30m x 2.4m (metal, other materials, and labour)?

Any info greatly appreciated.

10 cm / 4 inch . but 15cm better

50 Bht sqMt Labour only / Readymix [Boon He He] 1650Bht a Cubic Mt.

just laid a 140 SqMt Driveway in Lampang, hope it helps

as its so narrow, the edges are the places that will get the most loads and these will need to be made stronger to stop the weak edges cracking.
fo light traffic (cars,bikes) a 100mm slab with a thickened edge of 150mm should be suffice as long as it is on proper compacted grade.
however, for heavier loads i would recommend 150mm with a 200mm thickened edge. this will definately prevent cracking. also maybe make it wider if heavier traffic will be using it.

My driveway is about the same and 4 cm think. Labor was 3,000 baht and reddymix #1 concrete was 6,700 baht including delivery. Wire mesh was 300 baht

have you got a Honda Civic or a massive truck you regularly load with pineapples?

How do Thais normally compact the sub grade, manually or with a motorised roller?

You are suggesting a 6" slab with mesh 2" away from the surface. Is that the top, bottom or both?

^2 inches from the bottom would be easier. But just make sure it’s 2 inches away from any surface (fresh water areas). 3 inches if you’re in coastal areas (salt water)
