I sent the pictures to my mate he suggested skyhooks , but said the basic concept is Ok but it needs something a little more substantial under each tread.

Edit: Architect mate said only as part of a larger project.
    Hi VocalNeal,

Tried to send you a PM, but the forum software says I need at least 20 posts before it will let me do that. Quite frustrating.

Anyway, I would be interested in learning how much your friend would charge to do a proper analysis for me. Maybe you could send me his contact details in a PM?

I think people may be misunderstanding the design here. It does not seem to me the handrail is involved in the load at all. It seems the load should be carried by the stringers between the steps and the center pole. I would think you could completely remove the handrail and it wouldn't matter to the structural integrity at all.

Anyway, I do appreciate the assistance. I am continuing to try and find someone who is skilled in this art and can help me come to a proper conclusion. It is difficult for me to give specs to the builder, because this kind of thing is way above my pay grade.

    Thank you for any advice.

He said he used to but I'll ask if he still wishes to. In the mean time go to the games and or jokes forum and spend a few minutes getting your post count up to 21

The link is to an image of a conceptual design. It's anyone's guess how the actual staircase would have to be engineered. Hire a architect or structural engineer who does residential work.
