Right! New problem.
In general, the new card works really well, but if I try to xfer a file of a gig or more from my main PC to the laptop it loses connection.
Any ideas, as it's a bloody pain in the arse.

are you attaching a network drive or just the usual on the fly \\MTDTHEKUNT\SHARE ?

The laptop is still connected to the internet, but not the main PC.
^ yep normal, you need to attach a network drive, better when the connection is lost temporarily, it will get restored instead of quitting
How would a kunt do that?
Ahh, I think you mean Map the drive.
Not sure how this will stop me from having to reset the LAN connection on the main PC, but I'll give it a go.
yes, aka connect to Network drive
connect, attach, or map, same same
Initial xfer estimate seems twice as fast as from an unmapped drive. But, will it crash..?
Edit - xfer estimate has just gone up to 35mins for a 1.8gb file.
It's knocking out the streaming of the cricket, so I'll xfer the file after the Indians have been spanked.
I guess I'll need to do a search for someone who understands modern OS & networks for a solution.
Sussed it.
Switched the LAN setting on the main PC to 100mbps half-duplex and added the dchp stuff to the router for the laptop & main pc.
Takes around 15mins to xfer a 1.8gb file.
jesus, don't tell me it was set to 10Mps half duplex beforeOriginally Posted by Marmite the Dog
full duplex 100Mps would be faster, and the DHCP stuff is not related to speed
^ Luckily I found someone who knows shit about networking.
^ right, if he is as qualified as you, must have been something
maybe you should start with the basic, that is proper hardware, that's two times already and you now are starting to sound like Scampy
regardless, attaching a network drive like I instructed you is usually the thing to do for possible timeout, not the amateurish \\ for clueless tards
see you learn something today
I'm still getting a problem with the ethernet card on the main PC when transferring files even at 10mbps half duplex.
The drivers for it are up to date. Does anyone have any ideas (except BF)?
half duplex ? do you even know why ?
get yourself some proper hardware, I recommend at least vintage 2006, not 1997
^ no need, WinXP has a wonderful interface and can do the job like a real man, unlike your gay toy Win7
^Hows the wonky water heater?
