MOBILE PHONE BATTERY LIFE UK vs THAI

in thailand the battery on my mobile phone needs charging every couple of days.

at the moment im in the uk, and have been here a week now and the battery has not yet run out of juice. the little battery meter is showing 25% after 7 days, turned on for about 15 hours a day.

my uk usage pattern is similar to my thai usage pattern.

why does the battery run out so fast in thailand?

The further away the masts are, the more juice the phone uses to stay in touch. In England there are so many, you'll be lucky if you don't come back with leukaemia.

The uncertainty of the safety of cell phone use has been thrown up again. Now it is rated as a possible cause of cancer of the brain. Living in the sticks we do not have cell coverage. If I also give up alcohol, fat, sun, air and sex I could live forever.

What about WiFi routers, are they a risk?

Quite impressive stats for standby time, Although I bet you'll find the talktime or WIFI Browsing time is about 4 hours

I will wager the OP has a cheap Nokia, or no friends

You may have exposed something here.

Thailand has fake electricity that doesn't work as well as UK electricity.

Other than that, harry makes sense. Your cell phone will last longer, but you won't.

Where did you get the phone (or rather the battery charger) from originally?

Something to do with the hertz, perhaps.

My Thai phone and computer would show fully charged in both the UK and Australia, however once I used them, they would drain significantly quickly. I bought a Samsung charger in the UK and the battery went back to normal life.

If you were using a UK charger in Thailand, then perhaps you were never actually attaining full charge and now back in the UK, it's back to normal.

I find the cheap 15 quid Nokia I have has better call quality than my Blackberry.

    Battery lasts a week too

Does what it says on the can

I was reading today about how these Smartphones log your every move and most Apps for them pass your details onto 3rd parties

Bejeweled 2 sells your mobile number on apparently

exactly, apps shmapps, was with a couple of friends yesterday who spent nearly an hour trying to sync their blackcurrants or raspberries so that they could skype each other from their phones, why would you need skype if you already have a phone in your hand.

When you get back here try buying a Nokia charger for the Thai market.

wouldnt the internet access charges to use skype via a mobile phone negate any savings made by the free skype call?

like most yorkshiremen, i only use mobile phones for making phone calls, and assume that the thousands of people who seem to spend their entire lives fiddling, caressing, upgrading and loving these damned gadgets are afflicted with some kind of obsessive compulsive fetish that renders them incapable of rational thought or cognitive reasoning.

i could be wrong of course, although i doubt it.

Probably on local calls I doubt it, unless your data plan is significantly cheaper than your minutes.

I wanted to reduce my package from 500 mins a month to 300 mins - I hardly use the phone to talk - and to keep me on the same package they effectively gave me 600Mb of data for the same price.

But for international calls it would save you a frigging fortune. The only problem with Skype on a mobile is that it needs a decent processor at the very least.

Oh, and as a Yorkshireman, you don't check the cricket score periodically? pda.sky.com loads really quickly and uses little data.

leeds united scores are the only scores that matter to me, and i can wait until sunday morning to catch up on the inevitable disappointment that those results bring me !!
i have a thai based service (hatari) that allows me to call the uk for 75 stng/minute, to purchase a smartphone capable of doing all this nonsense and then the monthly fee would cost me much more than i am paying now, 25 quid for the phone and 75stng/ minute for the calls.

if i was a business user who needed constant access to the net and worldwide calls then one of these smartphones would probably be useful to me.
