Anyone Using Internet Explorer 9 (IE9)?

I tried it just for a bit but then I had a computer problem so I took it off and went back to the old IE8. I'm not sure if the computer quirk was due to IE9 or not. Microsoft says it's an important update. Since I have a legal version of windows I can get updates for it, etc.

Is there anyone happily using it? Are there any advantages to it? Should I try it again.

I've been using it as I started having issues with Firefox (integration problems with my preferred download manager)- I've been happy with IE9 so far- I can't say I see tremendous advantages, but it's a decent browser (certainly better than its predecessors)- it's certainly very fast, and that's a big concern.

You can get 'updates' even if it's an illegal copy.

It will only run on Windows 7- right now I've got 'W7 Home Premium' (which came loaded with the computer) but might upgrade it in the near future.

I had terrible problems with disk thrashing when I first installed it. Turned out to be a crappy Add On; removed it and now all is well.

    But I prefer Firefox 3.6.x

Althugh I use Chrome for Teakdoor, I have now started using IE9 for my regular browsing and find it superior to FF 4. No problems at all and I'm using Vista so you would expect me to have problems coming out of my ears.....

True but be careful. With an illegal copy best not to activate ' automatic updates
since hidden inside is one that detects whether you are using an illegal copy. If this happens you can get shut down. Best to vet the updates on offer first and just choose the ones you want.

    Apart from:

Internet Explorer 9 is finally available in final form to the general public, and we’re pleased to say that it represents a big leap forward for Microsoft’s web browser. We know that many of you readers have gotten turned off to IE in recent years (and understandably so) but Internet Explorer is suddenly a lot more competitive, and worth a look.
We recommend you try it for yourself (sorry XP users, Vista and Windows 7 only), but in case you’re still on the fence, we’ve prepared a visual guide to our 10 favorite new features in Internet Explorer 9. Read on for more info!

Cleaner Interface: IE9 does away with a lot of the clutter, moving the address bar, tabs, and navigation buttons onto a single row.
Tab Pinning: In Internet Explorer 9, tabs can be pinned to the Windows 7 task bar, just like programs. Better yet, right clicking on the task bar icon brings up a jumplist for quick navigation around the website (if that feature is supported).
It’s Fast: With hardware-accelerated rendering, IE9 jumped to the head of the pack in SunSpider JavaScript benchmarks. Microsoft’s collecting great-looking sites that take advantage of the speed at beautyoftheweb.com
Tab Isolation: A great feature first seen in Chrome, tab isolation means that each tab runs as its own process on your computer meaning that (in theory) if one crashes, it doesn’t take down all the rest with it.
Smaller Notifications: The new notifications display in IE9 is less intrusive, but still easy-to-spot.
Download Manager: Hooray! Microsoft joins the 21st century with a built-in download manager in IE9.
Tracking Protection Lists: IE9 makes it easy to keep websites from tracking your browsing habits using tracking protection lists. You can download a tracking protection list from a trusted security company, or create your own.
SmartScreen Filter: If you’re setting up Internet Explorer for someone who’s a little on the gullible side, you’ll appreciate the optional SmartScreen Filter, which verifies URLs against Microsoft’s blacklist and blocks known malicious sites.
One Box: Another feature done first in Chrome (but still nice to see) One Box combines the address and search bar into one. Bing is the default, of course, but you can switch to Google, if that’s your thing.
Standards Compliance: Internet Explorer 9 implements a lot of the new HTML 5 standards, including embedded video and audio, canvas, and SVG.
What have the Romans ever done for us?

Great info thanks. I think I'll try it soon. I worry a bit about the kids not knowing how to use it with new features. Eventually they'll get it.

I notice you are using FF pre 4.0 which I occasionally use on my PC. Laptop used 4.0 and froze more times than I care to think.

Yes, and I won't touch it until 4.1.

    No to Windows IE9

I have a legal copy of Windows Vista and get regular updates from MicroSoft. When they came out with "beta" versions of IE9 I agreed to update to some of them. The last one I accepted made me lose 3 or 4 of my bookmarks for chat sites I visit reqularly. I could not find those sites (the address was correct) and I could not log in when I finally did. get to those sites.
I was only able to get back to and log into those sites by removing the IE9 beta upgrade. Since that day I say NO to IE9 upgrades.
Maybe when MicroSoft has it in a full non-beta working version I may agree to further upgrades, but until I am convinced about that, the answer is still NO to optonal upgrades and IE9.

P.S. I sent a complaint about that to MicroSoft Customer Service...I doubt they actually read it.

Microsoft do make it clear that you install Beta's at your own risk, so you can hardly bleat that it didn't work when you installed it.

Download and install Chrome, which will import your IE bookmarks if you agree, then you can upgrade to IE9 (which has now been released), and you'll still have a backup.

I just installed the IE9 15 minutes ago. When I tried to post on TD using that I got a white box instead of blue where you type in your comments and after pressing 'Post quick reply' the post didn't register. Now I am back in IE8 and things are working. Not sure what's up with my system when I run IE9. Back to IE8 for now. My kids need to use this too so better-safe-than-sorry for the moment.

Ever since they launched Visa there has been a backlog. You should receive a response in the year 2100.

Thanks DD. Next time I'll give that a try. I thought I had selected that on install but maybe I'm mixed up about that.

It worked. You've got to check compatibility view under page options to post.
