I am DISGUSTED by Samsung. I'm in Toronto, Canada and just bought a 7.0 plus, been hapilly playing with it for the last day +, when I finally decided to check out the Peel App, which was one of it's best added features. No App, and then realized no IR Blaster.
That's because it's a P6200 and has 3GQuote:
BB (USA) is selling their P6210 (with IR) for $300.
BB (Canada) sells their P6210 (no IR) for $350
Anyway, the P6200 is the Asian Tab and available in Canada too with no IR but has 3G, the P6210 is available in the UK and US has the IR but doesn't have 3G.
^ Impressive how non-confusing Samsung has made the purchasing and selection process.
I currently only a Samsung SII.
Is it worth jumping to an SIII? Hopping over to the Galaxy Note? Or stay put?
I also have a S2 - I intend to upgrade to the Note 2 in october because I want the bigger screen as I use my S2 as an ebook reader alot .Quote:

Why Is Apple Starting To Piss Me Off?

I will start by saying that I love Apple and their products. My Mac hasn’t let me down since I bought it in February 2009. My iPod still works great, even though I got it in 2006. My iPhone was awesome. And I love my iPad.
I wanted to say all that so no one accuses me of hating Apple.
Now to the nasty part. My beef with Apple is the frequency with which they upgrade their products. I haven’t even had my iPad for 2 years and it’s already on the chopping block – meaning the new iOS 6 will not support the first generation iPads.
To Apple’s credit, their hardware lasts a long time. But the problem is that when they stop supporting my iPad with the new iOS, I will no longer be able to get App updates. A while after that, I won’t be able to get any new Apps because they’ll only support iOS 6 or higher.
This means if I want to continue buying apps and updating the ones I have, I’ll have to upgrade to a new model – after barely 2 years! This wouldn’t be a problem if the new iPad wasn’t so damned expensive. The entry-level unit is $499. My wallet dies a little inside just thinking about that price.
Yes, I realize Apple products are more expensive than most other products. That’s another part of the problem. People like me, without a whole lot of expendable income have a hard time keeping up with all the hardware upgrades when they happen on an annual basis.
I’m going to keep using my iPad for as long as I can, even after iOS 6 is out and will no longer support it. I just wish Apple would slow down a little. Let us consumers enjoy what we have before having to worry about buying something new.
Who knows, maybe my next tablet will be Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
I want the bigger screen - plus it has top of the line innardsQuote:

then the note came out in november and I went and tried out the size in my hand an liked it - I could not justify then to upgrade , but I will get the note 2 ( am on a very good wicket and deserve my toys :) )
Yes, amazing how they actually tell people what it can and cannot do in their own country.

Massive Apple patent win could kill off Android completely
Patent no 8,223,134 contains almost all iOS interface elements (including multi-touch), could this be the end of rival ‘copycats’?
Mark Hattersley
Apple on Tuesday was granted 25 patents that encompass almost all user interface elements used by modern smartphones. Everything from e-mail, telephone, camera, video player, camera, search, and most importantly multi-touch (the system of using multiple finger gestures on a touch screen display) have all been granted to the Cupertino-based company.
The company, responsible for the original iPhone, as well as subsequent iPod touch and iPad devices, now has the legal right to object to almost every aspect of rival mobile devices, particularly the Android operating system developed by Google.

Patent no 8,223,134: "Portable electronic device, method, and graphical user interface for displaying electronic lists and documents" covers all of the interface elements Apple developed during the original iPhone.

The patent outlines the interaction between harware and various apps including Contacts, Telephone, Browsing and Widgets such as Stocks and Weather
Steve Jobs, former Apple CEO, may finally get his wish and see Android devices (in their current shape and form) completely taken off the market. That is, if Apple’s legal team can make good on the patent system.
Jobs said with his characteristic abrasiveness: "I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong... I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, has a softer approach, but the message is similar: “From our point of view, it’s important that Apple not be the developer for the world. We can’t take all of our energy and all of our care and finish the painting, then have someone else put their name on it”.

The patent outlines the Multitouch interface and covers all gestures such as pinch to zoom and swipe to unlock.
What effect this batch of patents has is as much a test of the patent system, as it is of the relationship between Apple and its competitors in the tech market. The US Patent department itself is under intense scrutiny after a sharp increase in the number, and veracity, of litigation of patent holders using the legal system to prevent rival devices from going on sale, or extract licensing payments.
As US Judge recently dismissed an Apple patent lawsuit against Motorola “with prejudice” meaning that Apple could not refile, or sue again (thanks to @FloridaLegal for the clarification). Judge Richard Posner described the case as “silly”. Meanwhile, it is reported today that a UK judge has ordered Apple to take out adverts in major UK newspapers pointing to a court ruling that stated “Samsung did not copy its iPad”.
Apple has had success with its patents though, managing to get both the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Nexus removed from sale in the UK, and has sent letters to UK retailers ordering them to stop selling the device.

Apple is by far the most prolific instigator of lawsuits using the patent system, a report in July outlined that the company was responsible for 60% of mobile patent lawsuits taking place.
There’s little doubt to our minds that rival smartphone makers copied the iOS interface. Apple put all the initial legwork into crafting an end-to-end mobile device that acted as inspiration to the rest of the market.
What seems to be at stake is how much tech companies are allowed to take ideas developed by rivals, and what the role of the patent system is in allowing, or preventing such influence. Steve Jobs himself said “good artists copy, great artists steal”.
Apple has been accused of copying other products, one example would be the Sherlock 3 search system in Mac OS X, which Karelia Software claimed was a copy of its own program Watson.
Nobody wants to live in a world where a company (no matter how big or small) can spend years developing a product only to have it cloned by a rival and not reap the rewards of its work. Likewise nobody wants to live in a world where every new product developer thinks they must reinvent the wheel from scratch or be litigated out of existence.
But if Apple does continue its pattern of using the patent system to block rival products at the point of sale - and there’s no reason to imagine why it wouldn’t - this could give Apple's legal team a large nail to hammer into Android’s coffin.
The missus' phone packed up last night (a bottle of skin moistener in her bag, yes really..., broke and 'flooded the phone). She wants a Samsung that'll work with her internet business (she buys some stuff in Chinatown and sells it around Thailand) and costs 8-10k. I would've thought an iPad 2 at 13.5k might be a better option, but what do I know... Any suggestions? Should I start a new thread? :)Quote:

It does look like a good phone, and I reckon the missus will like it; I'll ask her if she wants to go shopping tomorrow. You're link ends by saying:
Overall, Samsung have a winner in the Galaxy Ace 2. This is a very meaningful upgrade over the original and ticks all the right boxes to get in the running for midranger of the year. Now it's up to Samsung to release the ICS update (and if we dare dream, Jelly Bean after that). Anyway, the moment it gets the Ice Cream Sandwich, there will be just the Xperia duo between it and its goal.
Basically, the Sony is better... :)
How much is an Xperia Duo and where can you buy one ?:rolleyes:Quote:

Android Transporter Enables WiFi Display Mirroring (similar to Miracast) of Android Devices
E.S.R.Labs is a German embedded software company mainly working for the automotive industry. But this time, they’ve started to work for the consumer market with Android Transformer, a software solution that can mirror an Android display to another Android device display via Wi-Fi in a similar fashion to what WiFi Miracast will do.
Eventually, the company plan to make Android Transporter compatible with Wi-Fi Miracast, but in the meantime they rolled out their own solution by taking advantage of H.264 hardware encoders and decoders on Galaxy Nexus S and the Raspberry Pi. If they use standard APIs, I assume any hardware running Android that with H.264 hardware encode/decode should support their platform.
I hope it will be work on (or be ported to) CX-01 mini PC which can be bought as low as $40 inc. shipping. It would make an even cheaper hardware than the Raspberry Pi (Up to 33% cheaper depending on your country customs duties). This hardware supports WiFi and TCC8925 features 1080p H.264 hardware decode/encode (up to 24fps ~ 30 fps), which could make it an ideal candidate for the job.
Let’s watch the demo where a Galaxy Nexus S smartphone display is mirrored on an HDMI TV connected to a Raspberry Pi + Wi-Fi dongle.
Having a Miracast server running on your HTPC or Android on a Stick and being able to stream from your phone via a client would be nice - and the gaming would be a neat trick also
Samsung to unveil new Note in August
Friday, August 03 07:56:30
https://teakdoor.com/images/smilies1/You_Rock_Emoticon.gif Samsung Electronics is set to take the wraps off a sequel to its popular Galaxy Note smartphone at an event on August 29, about two weeks before the possible debut of Apple's new iPhone. The two arch rivals are bracing for a full-blown battle with the expected rollouts of the two key models coming as they lock horns in a high-stakes patent trial in the United States. "We plan to unveil the next Galaxy Note at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin on August 29," a Samsung spokesman said on Friday, without elaborating. The event will take place two days before the opening of Europe's biggest consumer electronics trade fair IFA.
South Korean media reports speculate the new Galaxy Note may feature an unbreakable, 5.5-inch display - slightly larger than the current one - as well as a faster processor and a much better camera. Samsung, once a laggard in the smartphone market, overtook Apple last year to become the world's largest smartphone maker. The South Korean firm is looking to defend its supremacy by refreshing its line-up ahead of the launch of the fifth version of Apple's iPhone, widely expected to be released in October.
Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy S III in May, while Apple is planning a major product launch on Sept 12, stoking speculation the company may announce the sale of its redesigned iPhone. Samsung is estimated to have increased smartphone shipments to 50.5 million in the April to June quarter of this year, nearly double the 26 million iPhones sold. Apple shipments in the June quarter tumbled 26 percent on the previous quarter as the European economy sagged and consumers held off on buying ahead of the release of the iPhone 5. The two tech titans also started a trial in a U.S. court this week in a patent battle triggered by Apple's lawsuit last year claiming that Samsung slavishly copied Apple's smartphones and tablets. Samsung has countersued. ( C) Reuters
Right, I've got a Galaxy young (alright alright leave it out).
Anyway - I sung it's praises a month or so ago - but have now decided it's shit and won't buy another one until I hear it's fucking propper again. The Concept is great, android is the bollocks and all in all its the nutz - but it switches off by itself every 2 minutes. Bollocks.
Switches off as in powers down? Or the screen goes blank?
If it powers down, is it still under warranty?
^I chuck all that shit away (and regret it) every time :)
However, my missus said today that when her LG phone fucked up they didn't need the receipt just go on the IMEI number or battery number.
I'm off down to Samsung HQ in the next few days give 'em the what for :)
to be fair, i've dropped it a few times, but so fucking what. One of the first things these fuckers should think about is how many times the fucking things will be dropped. I had 3 shitty Motorola phones that cost a tenner each for about 5 years. Screen like Space Invaders original but even worse. Battery - Blinding. Reception - Blinding. Smashed them on the floor more times that I can remember. Still could always make a call.
New logo for Samsung (until they sort it out - they do good tellys so i'll cut 'em some sl;ack :) )
"There's no point being smart if you're shit"
