Can't remember but one of the programs Avast or AVG treats all auto runs as virus...
Cool in that it dumps all that crap.

I will explain in more detail tomorrow. But the key in this case is two clean computers to clean the device on. Holy shit the Thais do things bass ackward, but strangely enough half the time it works and is an easy fix.Originally Posted by Nawty
Actually, anyone could secure a Windows machine relatively easily, just that most people are too dumb to think - including our pundit friends in the bitbucket, on this thread.
All you'd really need to do is:
- disable the bloody VBS by default.
- install the default user as a 'regular' user, instead of making every user an admin user by default, as Windows is so prone of doing.
The fact that Microsoft hasn't managed to figure that out in the past decade is telling - not just of the users getting 0wned by that POS Windows OS, but the company supplying it to them and being too bloody dumb to fix it.
Fortunately, in the Mac field, I don't waste my time and my users' time with that sort of crap, but instead can concentrate on creative and productive projects - well, unless PC centric IT departments screw it up for everyone, as they so often do.
I really sometimes feel that the Windows/PC demographic exclusively attracts lazy retards too dumb and lazy to tie their own shoe laces.
Sorry, but I digress.... or do I...?
To be honest...who gives a flying fuck what you think Daffney....also, for your own information....ignore means get the fuck out and stay the fuck away from my threads....even if you feel you can big note yourself with your above average geeky comments.
All the world needs a geek....thank god you are one of them.....dont change....or the girls will also be poorer for it.

True that, you can unplug the ethernet cable, rip out the wifi card and power supply and then throw it into a closet. Presto: secure Windows computerOriginally Posted by DaffyDuck
Too bloody dumb to fix it or unable to? There is so much legacy code and kludged patches in Windows now that it can't be fixed, they are on record as saying that they have no idea what a lot of the Windows kernel code does anymore.Originally Posted by DaffyDuck
Wasn't Longhorn supposed to fix all that? Oh, right..

Eh? I offered him sensible advice on how to solve his (Windows) problem. That doesn't mean I am not aware of the security holes in Windows.
I also support Linux and AIX, and there's plenty of work keeping those secure as well.
What I don't do is run around blowing smoke out of my arse saying it's the best thing since sliced bread.
What I do see is pompous twats chunring out the old mantra of "if you had a Mac or an iPad you'd *never* have this problem".
Of course you wouldn't. You'd just have loads of others.
As long as humans are writing software, there will be flaws.

There are no easy fixes to repairing a compromised computer. You might be able to get the anti-virus to stop bleeping but you will still have no real idea if the machine is secure and clean or not and without wiping it totally you will never know what information it is serving up to nefarious parties.Originally Posted by Nawty
The first thing to do is to take it offline, especially if you have any sort of personal information stored on it.
I wrote a lengthy reply before about dealing with compromised Windows computers.

It is boring and tedious, but basically once you have been infected then until you do a complete re-install your private info may always be at risk.
And in fact I always recommend going from the top and wiping in these situations - if your practices led you to being infected in the first place, it's probably the safest bet.It is boring and tedious, but basically once you have been infected then until you do a complete re-install your private info may always be at risk.
But I want to try to save some information that is on my usb......I wrote my memoirs on it....22,000 words.
The USB drive is just a repository.
Unless the files on it are executable (or exploitable), you should be able to open them on another computer.
22,000 words. You must have killed a few brain cells.
......shhh
Dunno what that means. But cannot open the thumbdrive now....its locked, will not allow entry....so how can i open it on another puter.....and the bug is still in there anyway.
....and only half of them mispelt.Originally Posted by harrybarracuda

boot from that cd and choose evaluate ubuntu without installing
when you have a desktop , plug in your USB stick , copy your internal combustion fan controller memoirs to another ( uninfected ) usb stick. stash new usb stick safely up your arse on the 3rd shelf to the left.
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.
Hmmm...thanks i think.
But the infected usb i can reformat and use again right ? Dont really have to put it up my arse right ?
I had that problem once. There may be other ways to deal with it, but as far as I know reformatting is the only way to go.
What I do now instead of taking a thumb drive is to upload the files to Gmail, Google Docs, etc., download and print them at the shop. Otherwise, back up the files you are putting on the thumb drive, use it at the shop, and reformat straightaway when you get home.

^ Yeah, guys, you're right. Windows machines are sooooooo much better than Macs, judging by how easy it is for all of you to deal with just taking a thumb drive to a show.
Seriously, this thread is like a Mac commercial.
