not that old, 1 year
check the online store, the basic version of Mac-mini still doesn't ship with SuperDrive. I know it's hilarious.
Yes I took the cheap model, no point in spending money for an inferior machine, I just bought it for the case and the remote ;)
You're not going to get an answer, because he has none -- the guy didn't even know what a 'SuperDrive' is, so his internal knowledgebase is at least 10 years out of date (possibly longer, since he didn't even know the specs of a Powerbook Pismo), and you expect him to know specs and configurations about any modern computers built after the last millennium?
Get real? You've got a better chance of getting specs for flintstones, stone tools, and maybe ceiling traps.
Which is when you bought it ... USED! Who knows how old the actual model was. All Mac mini I bought from the refurb store over the past 3 years have had a superdrive.
What's hilarious is that I *did* check the online store, and here's the line up, including the low end model to the left:
Mac mini - Apple Store (Thailand)
Oddly, the specs of the low-end model are:
That's on the Thai Online Store, where you would expect things to be older, and more expensive. Seriously, you should find better ways to profit from what must obviously be a time machine you use to surf the web.Quote:
2.26GHz : 160GB
2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
160GB hard drive1
8x double-layer SuperDrive (emphasis mine)
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
Mac OS X Snow Leopard
I'd hesitate to think that you are actually that dumb to think that people won;t check the sources you refer to?
I remember a French guy who worked for Apple a long time ago, who got really really pissed when they didn't need his services... and replaced him with a different janitorial service.
If there are any programs you use on Windows that you want a Mac equivalent let someone know.
Just a few to start off would be
VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player For your vids
Adium - Download If you use an instant messenger like MSN or Yahoo as it will connect to any of them
Transmission For any torrents you like downloading
All the above are free but ones that I use that are worth the money are
Password Manager + Automatic Form Filler for Mac OS X Helps store all your logins etc and puts a nice easy to use little button on the toolbar making it easy to log in, helps to prevent logging in to any phishing sites as well. Works with Safari, Firefox, Camino and a few others.
AppZapper - The uninstaller Apple forgot. For removing apps, just open app zapper, drag the icon of the app you want to delete and hit the Zap button for a nice zappy sound!
16% is still rather different than the 1% you claimed, according to most things I can find Apples are at a bit under 10% and gaining steadily but slowly.Quote:

I think that is very telling, to upgrade (?) his current OS to Win 7 would have cost him less in both money and the (bit) of time he will need to learn to find his way around the new OS yet he was willing to take the plunge and see what is going on.
I am pretty sure he will like what he gets, for sure there will be a few minor hiccups along the way as he gets used to doing things on his computer in a slightly different way but as he said he is going to have some time to settle down with it and poke around. He can post up any questions he has here or google and there are a myriad of sites offering suggestions for poor Windows users who are finally opening their eyes!
it's crap, like Apple, never believe their marketing campaign.Quote:

to be honest, no matter what you choose these days in terms of specs, it will serve your needs 99% of the time, so a cheap PC for 15,000 THB will serve 99% of the market. Everything else is pure indulgence.
it's christmas, larvidchr wanted an expensive toy, and he got one. Nothing wrong with that. That's what I did with the mac-mini. Maybe he would have had a different choice if it was in a different time period or if he had to make a choice based on logic (low budget).
^ fucking Google it :p
or try dell.com or hp.com

Surprised also about the stability of Mac OS X. And surprised that a computer is not just a daily nightmare dealing with virii, malwares and popups.
I'm pretty new to Mac OS X after 10 years with GNU/Linux and I'll never go back. Not speaking about Windows.
I decided to google it because I got bored waiting for you to back up your claims about iMacs being overpriced with something verifiable. At dell.com I found something but the posts got shaved off to MKP:Quote:

OK, that didn't work either now, I think the MKP thread has been trashed. I spent ages (well a few minutes actually) configuring a Dell XPS but even with a 24" screen it still didn't really have hardware specs to match the 27" iMac even though the prices were quite similar.
Hmm, not looking too good so far..
I'll have a look at hp.com
ok mactards, let's see what we can get from Dell.com :)Quote:

Again apparently! FFS I give up! Just go to MKP and look for the thread helpfully titled "crap".
Interesting, no speakers? Certainly on my part, the 'D' word never instills a warm and fuzzy feeling, and the 'H' word flashes across my (weathered) brow. FYI, 'H' word is 'Helpdesk'. That on the basis of all Dell's that I've used (never bought, always Company provided) fall apart in a very short period of time. Does anyone other than a company (i.e. private individual) actually buy Dell's??
30,000 THB just for a shinny case and an Apple logo :p
OWNED !!!
you want speaker on your mac ? sure, that would be 30,000 THB please !!! :pQuote:

Ownage Level 2 on the way,
You bought a Mini based on the case and the fact that it had a remote!Quote:

OK, as an aside, in my (home) office I have a small Harman/Kardon unit, which gives great sound from the inbuilt (hate to say it, on the basis of provoking Butterfingers even more) iPod dock. However, the inbuilt speakers from the 24" iMac on my desk is near enough as makes no difference for sound quality. Cost to Mac buyers? No problem, that's FOC folks!
I fucking love TD on a Friday night,
why go to Nana and fuck some young whores when you can post on TD and own a full string of mactard princess :p
that's exactly what I am saying, it's all about gay look and a shinny case. I admit it. That's why I bought the mac-mini in the first place. It looks good. Period.Quote:
