    Windows Installer

Purchased a PC with a 'skim milk' version of WIN xp. I could successfully download AVG anti-virus as well as PC Tools firewall.

When I try to install the JAVA plug-in and run the .exe to install. Also, I try to install Adobe reader and a gaming application.

I get this nice pop up:

    Windows Installer

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

The browser that I am using is FF 2.0.

    Any advice? Thanks in advance.

You could try going to the MS update site and let it scan your Windows config and update as necessary... The latest version of MS Installer can be download & install from there...

Launch Internet Explorer, then click on the Tools menu option, then Windows Update... Once you navigate to the MS update site, let it scan your system for recommended updates... If you select to install any of the updates / patches, it will most likely ask you to update to the latest version of MS Installer first...
